Default United Express Landing Gear Failure at ORD

Passengers onboard a plane leaving O'Hare Airport are reportedly OK on Tuesday after their plane had to turn around and make an emergency landing Monday night.

No one was hurt this morning when United Express flight 7164's landing gear failed.
The flight was in the air heading for South Bend, Ind., when the warning light came on showing a malfunction with the landing gear.
United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said the plane carrying 28 people landed safely, but "it did not come to rest on all of its wheels."
All passengers were transferred to other flights.

Sounds like a Mesa flight number. Glad everyone was okay! I'd like to figure out what happened.

Speaking of that, I've gotten like two gear disagree messages this past month.

Another similar incident happened in the northeast earlier this week/last week. Two gear disagree msgs in one month is a lot. I've only had 3 in the past year. One retraction message and two on the extension.

CRJ? Let me guess.... nose gear wouldn't come down? When I was at Skywest, we had two incidents that I remember. One was at LAX and the other was DFW, but they were 200's and not 700's. Gotta love Canadian engineering!

Dear Fellow Crewmembers,

As some of you may have already heard, there was an incident involving Aircraft N511, UA Flight 7164 from ORD SBN last night. On final approach into SBN, the crew extended the landing gear in anticipation of a normal approach and landing; however, the crew received a Gear Down Disagree message. Instinctively the crew acted in accordance with their training and followed all checklists and procedures.

After complying with all checklists a joint decision between the crew and SOC was made to return to ORD.

With the left main gear still indicating UNSAFE, the crew touched down ever so delicately and brought the airplane to a stop on runway 27L. The left main gear failed to lock in place which resulted in the aircraft coming to rest on the right gear and nose gear, and on the left wing tip. There were no injuries and everyone deplaned normally through the main cabin door. All passengers were extremely grateful for the job the crew did and graciously expressed that through a rigorous round of applause as the airplane came to a stop. Needless to say, the entire flight and cabin crew did an excellent job!

We are currently cooperating with the investigating authorities and will keep you apprised of any new information.

Everyone in Phoenix would like to extend their thanks for an incredibly well done job to CA - XXXX, FO XXXX, FA XXXX and FA- XXXX!

Regards,

XXXX

Great Job. Hard enough when all three are down and locked.

Great job, guys! I wonder what caused it to get stuck in the first place? Maybe frozen contaminants on the gear? Mechanical problems? We'll have to keep an eye on the NTSB report.
