Spring and Summer flying schedule
About four or five months before the Fall and Winter schedules were set, airlines began announcing capacity cutbacks for thise seasons. If my memory serves me, American and United announced their decisions in May and June. Has there been any news about schedule increases for the Spring and Summer months? I know Delta is talking about more reductions, but can that be attributed to removing the overlap due to the merger with Northwest? Flying may be down this summer, but isn't it likely it will be higher than the current winter schedules? I don't know so that's why I ask. Thanks.

IMO alot of this will depend upon what our economy is doing by then. I think with this volatility its way too difficult to tell right now.

It would seem likely that some flying will be added across the board for the spring and summer. Even in a recessed period, more people travel in the those months than the winter months. Schools not in and the beaches will still be opened.
Just as an aside, I watched a news report about mayors meeting with Obama. The economists who spoke with the mayors said we should expect a 16 month recession. That would be the longest since WWII, but we are already in the 13th month according to the people who declare recessions. If true, things should be leveling out or even rebounding slightly by April and May.
