Retraining after furlough

Do you know what retraining is like after being furloughed? I'm sure it varies on the length that you were out for but does anyone have any insight? As for me, I've been furloughed for the past 3 months and counting with no end in sight.

It should be clearly spelled out in your contract. It should list the amount of minimum retraining you get dependent on durration of furlough.

I handed that in along with all the other manuals. Probably should've kept it.

At my airline you are good for a year as an FO. All you get is a couple of sim's and pushed out the door to sit reserve. After a year past your last check ride, a recurrent class and sim check is required.

I mistakenly handed in my contract as well. I've contacted one of our check airman and was told that if gone long enough, a few sim sessions and a requal PC is in order. If gone long enough we have to do a shortened ground school and sim again.

Why would you hand in your contract? Thats yours to keep. If i remember i'll look at mine tomorrow and see what it says.

I had it in the back of my station bulletins and just forgot to take it out before I sent it back. I'm trying to get my hands on another one.

Check your union website, there may be a copy available to download.

Return to Duty Following Recall
1. A pilot’s return from furlough is contingent upon evidence of his meeting the
physical standards set out in Section 15 (Physical Standards, Examination and
Testing) of this Agreement. A pilot must be able to qualify or requalify for the
position to which he is recalled, consistent with Section 11 (Training) of this
Agreement.
2. Following reassignment to duty (including training, if required), a pilot who was
furloughed will serve any remaining portion of his probationary period.

That's all our contract says and in Section 11 (Training), it doesn't say what kind of retraining we are supposed to get or are allowed to get, if any. Basically, the contract doesn't say anything worthwhile about the subject.

There is going to be a minimum amount of training required dependent on how long you've been gone. Just keep in mind, if you don't feel ready for the PC after the minimum training ask for more. At my company, they're pretty good about giving extra sims/instruction if you request it.

I went through everything but indoc all over again. But that was because the plane I was furloughed off of was no longer operated in North America:(
The guys that had already been on the Saab got a short (bout a week) ground school then a couple sims and then a PC. I think they then had to do one day of OE and away they went.

I was furloughed for about 70 days and when I came back I did two days of IOE. Thats it.

I heard from a guy who recently went back after 3 months or so and he said the check airmen were very understanding and understood the situation. That being said, I'm sure its different airline to airline. Also, you will be surprised at the level of motivation and determination you will have after knowing what its like to sit on the bench for so long.

If its PSA you can still access the company website and its downloadable along with all other manuals.
