If you are based in DFW then I would stay in dallas area. I am in Austin right now and it is "Not Cheap!" I lived in the Dallas area for 20 years and it is much cheaper (housing, gas, food). Of course it all depends on where you what part of town you want to live in. Expect to pay 25k more for the same size house in Austin compared to a city like Mckinney, Tx which is 40 minutes from DFW.

I would move to fort worth. It's really cool and cheap and it's only about half an hour from dfw.

Airnet flies Barons in and out of AUS and SAT Monday-Friday. We fly to ADS which is Addison TX, about 10 miles north of DAL. Jumpseaters are always welcome.

If you are stuck on AUS/SAT, check out the "Hill Country". It is really pretty out there with lots of lakes for recreation. Good luck with everything! |

I hate these people and do not miss them since I moved from Dallas. |

Oh yes the thritythousand-aire. The spiked hair guy in his late 20's/early 30's who has 2 expensive outfits he saves for clubs and bars, and he is cool because his shirt says Armani on it. Spends all of his money on a leased vehicle and lives in a small apartment/townhome close to the bars, usually has a roommate.

Honestly check out Fort Worth. It's the best kept secret in the U.S. (in my opinion) It's a great town with the great location you get with Dallas, but without the 30K millionaires. The people are more down to earth, housing is more affordable and it's easier to get larger lots and land if you want and still live close enough to DFW to work out of there.

I am based in DFW and live in Euless...right next to the airport. Bought my house new for $145 in 2004. Tax people think it's worth $165K.

If you have already decided to pick up and move to a new place and the choices are pretty similar in their demographic, choosing to live in base is a the best option! It will give you way more choices in bidding and you will be home almost a whole extra day per week on average.
Talk to any guy who has both commuted and lived in base and the ubiquitous response will be that their QOL went through the roof after moving in base. If you were trying to decide between commuting from San Diego Vs. living in DFW then you might have to do some more soul searching. But SAT or AUS vs. DFW = NO BRAINER! |
