FedEx Jumpseating
 

I'm sure this is going to be moved my the Mod ... but I wanted to post it here because I wanted the facts from the regional guys that have actually done it before.

If you list for a JS with FedEx, can you still be bumped off just like any other airline or is your reservation solid and cannot be displaced unless dire circumstances call for it?

My understanding is that your "reservation" holds true, but of course there are always going to be circumstances that could get you bumped.

It is my understanding that FedEx allows their employee's to list 7 days prior to the flight. 24hrs before the flight, anyone else can call and get listed to create a reservation. 2hrs before departure is the cut-off time.

Of course once you get onboard it is still Captain's decision. Cookies are not required but recommended.

I've used FedEx once. Great experience. No TSA screening or schedule or worrying if you get on or not. Had another FedEx guy riding in the back with me. He brought a sleeping bag and air mattress for the floor, I got to sleep on the row of seats on the bulkhead. Good luck if transiting through MEM as FedEx is HUGE!!! I think we rode the bus around for about 30 minutes and it all looked the same.

Just FYI, the A300 I was on had 5 or 6 seats on the bulkhead plus the ones up front so unless there are alot of FedEx employee's jumpseating, you should be fine.

Actually, FedEx pilots can list 14 days prior, but offline can only list 24 hours prior. If you are going to cancel, you have to do it SIX hours before show time not to incur the penalty of losing your privileges for a period of time. (It is the same for us.) We only take pilots domestically, CASS or not.

If you say where you are going to/from, I can provide additional details on the process.

But if you can list, odds are good that you will get on, unless some huge operational emergency comes up, or the aircraft type is changed, and the number of jumpseats change. The freight will get there, trust me on that one. We may swap out airplanes and crews, but the boxes go.

There are lots of seats in their widebodies. However if you're going to MEM it might be tough. I used them to go to work all the time and never had a problem.

If I go somewhere, I usually ride on them. No passengers to deal with, usually not hard to get on a flight and the crews are super cool.

I have ridden FedEx plenty of times. It is really the best way to go if you want an *almost* guaranteed ride.

Is there a number to call or a webpage that lists the time the flights leave at?
