ASA Furlough: On a Serious Note

As a recent ASA furloughee, I find it nessesary to say THANK YOU for the support I have seen come around during this last week or so. We ALL really appreciate it! While the furough is extremely unfortunate, I am proud to work for a company that contains the "type of people" that will willingly sacrifice their time and effort for a situation that does not directly affect them like it does us. When I first got the notice, I immediately wondered how ASA, my fellow pilots, and the Union would react; hoping we weren't to be cast aside and somewhat forgotten. After reading posts on APC, talking with fellow ASA pilots, and attending the recent ALPA meeting; I feel that while I'm out the door, I'm taking with me a much better appreciation for the people I work along side. We are much in debt to all of you should I find myself flying once again in the future...

Good luck on the upcoming COBRA vote!

good post man, I totally agree with you....i can't wait to get recalled

gtechpilot 01-22-2009 04:54 PM

Good luck with things and hopefully we can bring you guys back soon! Though there are certain very vocal critics, I can honestly say most of the guys I've talked to lately are willing to go above and beyond for you guys. Hopefully, we'll get the COBRA thing passed for you - it's pennies, I know, but every little bit helps!

Amen to that. Thanks ASA. Can't wait to come back.

Good luck with the COBRA vote. Apparently our fellow pilots at PSA don't care about us and voted against it. I really could of used that insurance today.:(

I'd brace yourself for the worse Daniel.

At least when we return most of us will hit 2nd year pretty quickly, and then we'll be drawing MMG during the 3+ month training.

More money for booze and tits.

Spoken like a true single guy, but I know zee truth! hahaha.

Methinks we need to have a big ACEY80 party at the Pink Pony when we get back... or should we hit the Clermont Lounge?

YEAH RIGHT! When we get back, we will end up on RES. Takes 3+ months to train a new hire, they won't start training till we are back in training. We will hit the line before them. We are so far down the sen. list, it will take 4 months of classes (2 a month) just to get us into a line holder range. And the only way that will happen is if the Delta fairy comes and sprinkles some more flying for us.

Won't hold me breathe for a line, just holding it for recall right now. :D

Yesterday was my last day. :(

Back in College, mid terms next week. Man....haven't done that for 7 years. Also why I took the early furlough. Also working part time to pay the rent. (non-flying)

USMC3197 01-31-2009 08:14 PM

I know I joke around a lot on the ASA furlough subject guys, glad to see you all have a good sense of humor too. Trying to put a different spin on a bad situation. Just no other way for us to go now but up now right?!

It's amazing how the "Acey 80" are running around to all the message boards acting like they're the only ones who ever got furloughed. Are you aware of what's going on at Comair? Air Wisconsin? Republic? United? Airtran? Hello?

I don't see three threads a day of their pilots whining about getting furloughed. Why we have them about ASA?

What else are these boards for but venting man????? If you don't wanna hear it......skip over the thread. Simple solution. But seems like you might have more fun crying about why and creating more drama......Welcome! :D

Hello, pot, it's the kettle calling...

Now did you have a rebuttal of why ASA furloughees seem to think they're more hurt than the other airlines' furloughees who aren't constantly whining in public?

acl65pilot 02-01-2009 07:55 AM

I would vent to. There is nothing wrong with that.

USMC3197 02-01-2009 01:42 PM

Seriously?

lol

Wow JP.

Not that I really give a ****, but, because I've recently seen how some of our comrades who still have jobs are gloating and glad as a girl with her prom dress over her head on prom night because of the arrival of our uber long Regional Jet.

It's also great to hear FO's picking up open time to get their 100 credit line values back. Say what you will, but I'm not someone who can be too delighted in such behavior considering one moment they speak of being sorry about the furlough and the next talking about their huge ass line values.

But anyway - not like I'm one to argue with you about anything. Carry on.

I sure as hell hope no more furloughs come. But the same giddy little boys and girls with large RJ dreams in their eyes will be in a world of hurt if the furloughs and displacements come again anytime soon (soon as in within two years) and that little "No Furlough Clause" is tossed into the can since it's not even worth the paper it's printed in.

This thread is listed as ASA Furlough so we have all the right to come to this thread and talk about that topic.

Now.... what part of that was me complaining? OR was it me breaking the logic down for recall and the odds of going back to RES? You don't see other threads of other airlines when their furloughs are announced and effective? You must not read, you want links instead??? But again... this kind of comment is your track record. "can't teach an old dog new tricks"

DLister 02-01-2009 02:40 PM

So JP thinks that we are whining about losing our jobs. This coming from a guy who whined about paying more in travel benefits. Nobody is whining about anything. We have all knew this was part of the industry and we are here just talking about what our next play is. If you don't like the thread just ignore it like you do with everything else when it doesn't revolve around you.

Wow John, did you read my original post to this thread??????? Was I whining? No I wasn't, I was saying thanks. I think everyone else got that, WHY DIDN'T YOU? How about you marinate on that for awhile, and then we can get into another issue.

According to you (so it must be true, right) I guess none of us have any idea what's going on at any other airlines, and we have this "I'm the only one to ever get furloughed" mentality. Are you serious? That's your argument???? That's hard to believe since I find myself on APC frequently, reading posts from all walks of this biz, as I'm sure most all of us do! Come on. This is a pilot forum, where we talk about things like this John! If you can't handle that, YOU should STOP your whining and move on!!! I feel for everyone on furlough, and if they want to discuss it I'll probably read every one of those threads ACEY or not...

Seabat 33 02-01-2009 06:38 PM

You guys have deserved the right to talk about your lives direction via furlough. There are many guys out there with experience in this area. Ask JP if he has ever been furloughed. He hasn't, but yet he will tell you what you CAN and CAN'T talk about!

He is the poster child for an internet tough guy. He provides nothing of substance EXCEPT what he thinks you should do. Remember the remark I made about him having his sights on the MEC in the future, well, word on the street is he has gone after the Scheduling Committee chairmen.

Trust your reps. Daniel knows who I am and can verify I will not steer you in the wrong direction. MW is the guy to speak to. He is a good guy and is very knowledgable. Beware of the guys who are here just to bust you balls, JP is at the top of the list.

Yup! Seabat took care of me when I was a new hire. Showed me the ropes, educated me with ASA and went out of his way to answer my questions. He didn't have to but he did.

Did a 4 day with him too, one of the best guys (of many) I flew with at ASA. Showed me some pretty good tech. in flying the CRJ and was patient. Like our nice close tight visual on the 1st day! (HATE THOSE) He is one of the CAs out there that remembers what it was like to be in our shoes. I also flew with MW before and met him at the ALPA meeting. He is the one heading our furlough committee.

Our union is only as good as the leaders we vote to lead it.

This from the guy that needed flight following to Leesburg....hahaha j/k We never flew together! Matt and I did. We were just in the same standz class together. Also don't forget the New Orleans trip! :D How are things at Pinnacle?

EatinRamen 02-02-2009 01:12 PM

I'm just curious to find out if you guys have already been furloughed. The reason I'm asking is cause a friend of mine at ASA said he was furloughed, yet on his Facebook status he says he was called in for a trip today.

Feb. 8th is our last day before Furlough begins...

jth029 02-02-2009 01:25 PM

If any of you ASA guys know of someone needing a place to live. I’ve got a room open in Newnan. One of my roommates is getting furloughed and needs to move out. It’s cheap, only 250 + bills. If anyone knows anyone interested send me a PM or e-mail me at [email protected].
