NO... you morons... this has nothing to do with merger. You know we hired for 15 airplanes but are only getting 5 of those? So we're about a hundred people fat. Now if you're Mesaba does it make more sense to get rid of a bunch of senior people that make $$$$ or furlough a bunch of first year fo's that make -$ ??? Thats right get rid of the senior ppl, before you furlough to trim the fat. Just like any other airline that has ever had extra pilots on the roster.

I tend to agree and see a merger in the works somewhere down the line, but unfortunately thanks to ALPA's dirty little secrets, I (along with 297 other Comair folks) will be stapled to the bottom of the seniority list, put junior to guys that we are senior to. |
Why do these forums always turn into a pi$$ing match about whose weiner is bigger? Let's have an exchange of information and ideas without being rude. You guys are lucky to have Mesaba jobs. Except for a two year break, I have worked for flight schools since 2001. I would LOVE to leave instructing behind. Just remember you're on the same team. It doesn't matter if you fly the 340, the 200, or the "9".

ExpressJet just did this exact thing before our furloughs too. We knew at the time though that the early-outs were to mitigate furloughs though. However, maybe this is just an offer to trim some senior fat, or they are hiding that they will furlough soon. Don't see why they would hide that they would furlough though.

There is only about 7 people at Comair that have signed up for the Early Out/Buy Out so far. The chief pilots are saying that they don't expect many more to take the offer, and RP with forecasting and planning says that there will be another displacement bid coming out. He said Downgrades/more furloughs depends on how many people take the bait.
Comair's President is a former Compass guy and he is primarily aligning this operation to that of Compass. I wouldn't doubt a Compass, Mesaba,Comair merger. Compass doesn't have any senior people, so there is no need to trim fat there. Then you see the same programs and Comair and Mesaba. Good luck guys. |

I'm assuming all those who might be furloughed have already been furloughed somewhere else and forced to give up seniority. Nice, why do we put up with this profession.
