Just found this job and what a concept, you get paid for EVERY hour on duty:eek:

This job starts at 38K (without overtime), home every night etc and all you need is a HS Diploma! Where do I go to school to get another Certified credential? The CFL license sure does pay well. Mailing my resume tomorrow.:D

Lemme guess...have you ever been to Morristown? I lived right up the road (next town over, but they all sort of blend in to each other in NJ) in Madison. Morristown and Madison probably have the highest percentage of $60k+ cars and $750,000 homes in any neighborhood on the east coast. $38k won't buy you squat there. You're more than welcome to take the job however, don't let anyone stop you...I hated the place (nice towns though, if you had a boat load of $$).

What's the difference? Making 22K flying for a Regional being based out of there or making 38K driving a forklift. Both jobs don't cut it. But the guy or girl with HS Diploma makes almost twice the amount a Regional/Cargo/FAR 135 guy makes. Am I wrong?:confused:

I posted it just to illustrate that we are underpaid by a lot more than just a little. Also to illustrate that most jobs, even entry level jobs, pay for every hour on duty. When I'm on duty but not flying, I'm still at work, which I consider working as I can't leave etc, but don't get paid for it. I, as well as you, are bound by law that dictates we can not fly more than X amount of hours per month, limiting income even further. Off-course, that same law also protects us from being too tired to complete the task at hand. But still. Our hourly rates are pathetic to say the least.

To give you an indication, my wife, runs heavy earth moving equipment and makes close to 90K/yr (base). She is NOT an acception... There are many more like her out there making that kind of $ I on the other hand with my 4 yr degree and an ATP make barely over 30K and I'm NOT an acception either:eek:

Nope, 22k x 2 = 44k, which is close enough to 38k. Pretty crazy...but people don't rent forklifts for fun, either. And I bet they don't subcontract out the work to multiple companies, pitting everyone against each other.

Go run heavy earth moving equipment, then. Don't complain about the pay if you're willing to do the job. Those jobs pay that much because they have to - otherwise people wouldn't do them. Did she just walk into that job, (ie no training, no past experience?)? I'd bet she had some previous experience working other types of smaller equipment before making $90k.

Oh, and another counter point - how many people rent earth moving equipment for fun? I can think of about ZERO.

Her job does sound cool, though. $90k, huh? WTF are you doing working!?! I'd be golfing every day playing "mr. mom".

Then what are you doing flying? Go bust your back and make that 90K. The problem is that many and I'm guessing including you would still take that job flying a regional for 17K a year. No body has the balls to do something about it. Maybe you guys should have a mass walk out on May 1st see if that works out.

Not to mention the fact that the 38k forklift job will be paying maybe 40k in five years with a couple modest raises and cost of living increases.

Work at the regional for a couple years in the right seat and upgrade to the left, with a huge pay raise in two or three (assuming this isn't AE or Horizon). Now you're getting paid more than that job. Depending where you are you should be making $50k. Assume you do this for a couple more years, getting a raise every year and you make the jump to a major. Now you're making 6 figures. Does the forklift do that for you?

Thats not as bad as the baggage handlers in canada make more than the RJ pilots flying the plane that they are throwing bags in to.(baggage handlers here make about $50,000)

I wonder what the passengers would think if they knew that the guy loading their bag gets more money then the guy flying the plane.

When I started at Henson as an F/O on the BE 99 I made 780/month. That was with 3500 hours of TT with 2400 multi, almost all in Convairs and DC 3/6. The gate agents were fresh out of travel school and made 900/month. When I upgraded a year later I made a whole 1150/mo. Anything for that PIC turbine time.:cool:
