Best Places To Non-rev

Any good cheap ideas for a short stints would be awesome. Since the pay is sub-par at the regionals I wanna at least partake in my bennies.....I hear Costa Rica is amazing so thats next on the list. I can usually pull a week a month for travel after trip trading. Just have to keep it cheap. :D

I went to Ireland just after furlough, it was pretty sweet. I highly recommend Dublin... if you do go, stay in the Temple Bar region... really close to Trinity College and tons and tons of bars. Everyone around you will be in their 20's/30's and you will never go thirsty. :D

Also tour the Guinness Brewery in Dublin... its about 20 euro, but well worth the cash. Have a pint in the gravity bar overlooking the city... it is amazing.

I second this as I did it this past summer... if you choose ireland though make sure to try and take in some of the country side as well, especially the west coast as it is rather impressive

You can take a high speed (~100mph?) train from Dublin to Limerick Ireland (west coast) for 15 euro if you book your ticket online. There are trains every couple of hours and Heuston station is close to Temple Bar and easy to get to by light rail.

If you do go to Dublin Diver Driver is right stay near the Temple Bar area, it's where a bunch of good bars are. If you want to do the Guiness tour go to their website and pay online, it saves you a couple Euro and you get to skip the Q. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay there are a few hostels near the factory although it would e a 15 min walk to Temple Bar. If you want details on anything feel free to PM me, I have been many times and have friends who live there.

Any tips on non rev to BCN?

jeepcrawln 01-30-2009 10:45 AM

Bond,
One of my buddies was in Barcelona a couple months ago, i'll ask him about it and get back to you, when you thinking of going?

James Bond 01-30-2009 10:51 AM

sometime in the next 5-6 weeks, planning to spend maybe five days there. I've been before, but its been a while and I was actually poorer then than I am now!
i.e. I'll need to be stingy, just not as stingy.

Mofongo is pretty good. Mojitos, I hate, though. :p

You cannot beat Honolulu. There is plenty of service, you can ride the bus to the Waikiki hotel district for $2, hotels are plentiful, many under $100 per night. There are a zillion bars and restaurants, all within walking distance. Best of all, you use the same money, there are no customs inspections, you can read and speak the language, and it does not cost you $100 in customs fees and departure taxes. Oh, did I mention perfect weather and girls in bikinis?

I used to have a buddy that lived there. I spent 2 weeks there back while instructing at Delta Connection Academy. Great place! Snorkeling and scuba were fantastic also.

look on perx.com and find a good deal.......but I'd say it really depends on the benefits you have, how many non airline employees are going wit you and where you are at. Like American, you have to expect to go through DFW, ORD, JFK, and LAX to go any where out of the country. if you connect to one of those cities with a D1 (vacation pass) then you are ahead of the pack and almost guaranteed a flight also in first. right now the loads look good but they are also packed with nonrevs. I have heard Belize is good and cheap. good luck and use your benefits!

Ya I have other pilot buddies who usually go with but we just list as jumpseaters and almost always make it on......Except on American because of there dumb jumpseat policy of only letting 1 jumpseater list even if there 50 open seats in the back......Gotten screwed by them before.

Best Places To Non-rev... HOME!

IFly17 01-31-2009 06:33 AM

There are lots of hostels around temple bar. Stayed at a nice one with a friend just across the river from the bars. About a 5 minute walk and 10 minute stumble. Hostels.com is a great place to use to find a place.

I believe the hotel United owns in Honolulu is available to UAX crews. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of it, but maybe you can find it on these forums. A couple UA FAs owned my old crashpad in Denver and they said if you go there it is not really that expensive for a room short walk to the beach and cheap drinks.

That's a great website!!! Thanks buddy!

I'm pretty sure AA doesn't have the one jumpseater policy.

captain152 01-31-2009 07:43 AM

Oh, btw, how much would it cost to non-rev to Ireland? Approximately of course. I know every airline is different for the most part. Any approximations will do. Just trying to get a rough estimate for travel expenses. I would either go non-rev on USAir or UAL.

I'd like to start using my bennies as much as possible to actually see the world and all :)

Laxrox43 01-31-2009 08:10 AM

You can never go wrong with Cancun. We've all been there at least once or twice in our career, but it never get's old...

I would also suggest Aruba. I had a blast the last time I was there.

Well I'm 110% sure they do with 9E since I've run into the problem before as I said in my previous post........I heard majors are not restricted but with most regionals it works as I previously stated.
