Mesa / Aloha ???

Aloha Airlines' name sale challenged | HonoluluAdvertiser.com | The Honolulu Advertiser

flycrj200 01-31-2009 05:18 PM

Another Mesa thread.

DENpilot 01-31-2009 05:59 PM

Yeah, another thread that will be 10 pages of Mesa bashing....

Here is my thoughts on the Aloha name:

These people who have this "emotional attachment" need to get over themselves. It is just a friggin name! This personfication of the Aloha name is beyond ridiculous. The guy who sold it did it legally so, and this judge is scraping at ends to stop the sale because he has an emotional attachment to it. Business is business, people. To make anything more of it is stupid.

By the way, is it me, or have fares never been cheaper in intra-Hawaii?

Purpleanga 01-31-2009 06:20 PM

What happened with the appeal? Who won?

You didn't hear? Delta won the appeal and Mesa will cease all ERJ flying effective 2/1. I've heard that they've hired bankruptcy lawyers and are looking at Chap 7....

It's not just a name it's a reputation and a sense of right and wrong. The guy who sold it? You mean the way it was stripped from them because they went BK and had no other options to pay their creditors with don't you?

Have the fares never been cheaper? You see something cheaper than what Go!'s charged?

Typical Mainlander and Haole logic up there... In the Hawaii book you're beyond ridiculous.

And:

Yes they have... when MidPac ran YS-11s for 5 bucks one way in the 80s (translates to about 10 bucks today). Those low fares have never been profitable and those sorts of fare wars have always ended with one company or another going Bankrupt.

Purpleanga 01-31-2009 07:12 PM

When is the ruling?

flycrj200 01-31-2009 07:53 PM

the ruling was delayed till 2090

Being born and raised in Hawaii, I understand the attachment that folks have with the "Aloha" Airlines name. Being a "home grown" and, locally operated airline means alot to us locals. This airline's history spans 4 decades of safe, reliable service to the islands as well as mainland (US) operations. This is no small feat, and one which many here take tremendous personal pride in.

Folks here understand business, we also understand that the airline industry is very competitive place to work. But we also know that the circumstances that the Airline failed was due to unethical (illegal) business practices which the court system ruled against Mesa. Mesa, operating under the "Aloha" name would be an abomination to folks here. You'd better believe that every effort will be made to prevent Mesa from acquiring the "Aloha" brand. In any event, I predict that "Go-Aloha" won't succeed here in the long run and the name of "Aloha" will return to us sooner than you think.

Go back to HI and stop taking "Mainland" jobs from us.

True statement. But everyone is so stubborn here there is no sense in debating it. The whole thing is just silly.

Probably. That's what happens when you charge peanuts and take losses for years for the hopes of putting Aloha out of business. Didn't JO just report the first ever profit for Go? Like a few thousand dollars. That's all you need to know. There is no way JO was there to "share" the people.

What was the purpose of this other than to show your lack of respect? It has been PROVEN in a court of law that GO! used illegal practices to obtain Aloha's proprietary information and use it against them. I personally think GO! trying to obtain Aloha's name is a slap in the face of every employee that ever worked there. I wonder, does J.O. **** all over peoples graves at night for fun as well?

Well I work for Mesa and I agree with you on the Aloha name - most of us do. I don't want anything to do with Aloha. Uh uh. Not cool.

And yes, probably. But the funny thing is when he dies, he'll probably need a cement encased casket to protect him from the things people will want to do to him! hahaha

No, that was not the purpose. I'm tiered of people from HI thinking that they should be treated differently from "mainlanders"....you are the same as the rest of the states.

jeepcrawln 03-05-2009 01:51 PM

I don't think they feel they should be treated diffrently due to their location either, but I do think that because Aloha serviced their community for so long, were so close knit and treated their employees with respect and dignity it is that much more of a slap in the face to watch their name go to the man that just months prior burried it.....unethlicly.....

Disclaimer: A pilot for Mesa.

Your post which criticizes others fails on the merits of accuracy. It was Hawaiian Airlines who JO stole proprietary data from. Aloha's lawsuit contended on the much more difficult to prove "predatory pricing" only. Which probably explains why it had such a smaller settlement amount.

I don't think what we did in HI was right or ethical, and I'm amazed we're making a profit after all the millions JO wasted there but he only stole proprietary data from one of them.
