Word is that some 250hr wonder(with his Ipod on) got hit by a tug while doing a preflight.
|
What word, where, when, was he hurt? Was he doing a preflight on a new airplane that some other regional was scheduled to get but didn't at the last minute? When will age 70 retirement be passed, is fuel getting cheaper or more expensive . .. .. sorry had to bust on you for the rumor mill.
It's always the iPod isn't it, somewhere Steve Jobs is smiling  |
If I saw someone wearing an Ipod (or talking on a cell phone) get hit by a tug while doing a preflight I would probably have to laugh before I faked being concerned.
I refuse to wear a bright orange vest. Too much of an indignity. Orange isn't my color. |
Wow people
it's just a freaking vest Get a grip..use this "complaint" energy to go after something more worth your efforts..like..oh...i don't know...work rule improvements, pay improvements |

They don't want us to get hurt. They want to give us free orange vests! There is something positive to come out of this. |

BE IN EFFECT. ALL CREWMEMBERS WHILE WORKING ON AND AROUND THE AIRPORT OPERATIONS AREA (AOA) SHALL WEAR A HIGHLY VISIBLE SAFETY VEST OVER THEIR OUTERMOST GARMENT. FOR PILOTS, THE VEST WILL BE WORN WHILE CONDUCTING PRE/POST FLIGHT INSPECTIONS, WALKING TO THE AIRCRAFT FROM OPERATIONS, AND ALL OTHER TIMES WHILE WORKING ON THE RAMP AND AOA AREA. THE VEST ARE NOW A STRICT REQUIRMENT ON THE AOA AND WILL BE CONSIDERED PART OF THE PILOT UNIFORM. THE VESTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED BY YOUR CHIEF PILOT AND SHOULD BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO THE 15FEB START DATE. ¥ i know you do it when you go to canada but didn't think its SOP here in the US now |
If we need reflective vests for safe transit of the ramp then we also need to do away with hats and ties. After all they could be FOD or choking hazards.
|
My last trip to Toronto I was told I would have to wait until one of the cabin cleaners was done so I could use their vest to conduct my walk around.
I hate that! |
Next they are going to issue us helmets. And maybe ice-skates to do walk arounds in the winter. They really need to focus on training and enforcing rules for the rampers and those that drive on the ramp. I don't know how many of those guys I have seen using cell phones, and what appear to be Ipod head-phones in their ears. The fuelers (at least at DFW) need more training as well, leaving their grounding cables strung out at knee or chest height just waiting to snag someone.
You know these vests are the end of any Captain ever volunteering to get the walk around ever again. The Captain I was flying with Saturday said he isn't heading to the ramp anymore unless he has to. Just wait until someone gets hit by one of those sky-cap carts in the terminal, then we will have to wear the vests inside as well. |
