Republic/Shuttle/Chautauqua Pilots
I have an interview on Wednesday. I've studied the gouges but am still quite nervous. This is my one shot not to commute any longer or have to move my family (I live in Indy). Any advice or tips other than what I might find in the gouge? TIA!
|
I'm sure you can get specific gouge on the web, but the most imortant interview tip that I would pass on is to be well rested the day of. Since pilot interviews usually involve travel and maybe time-zone changes, try to arrive early on the day before the interview. Study if you need to, but put the books away at dinner time, get a good meal, a beer (ONE beer), and go to bed early. Also do whatever stress reduction activity you prefer; stretch, jog, lift, whatever.
I figured this out because I've alawys performed better at interviews where I didn't really want the job...no real pressure :D Since you really want this job, try to get some of the stress out of the picture. |
interview
I interviewed on monday for an F/A position. I am a certificated pilot but i just recieved my CFII and i dont have enough hours for them. Anyway, i interviewed with the pilot recruiter for the F/A position and she is a stickler. I got the job but i really wasnt sure in the beginning. Dont go in there expecting to read her because she is very monotnous. Anyway, good luck, maybe in a couple of years i will to an internal position change and we will be flying together. who knows.

Thank you both your replies. And lucky - wow! They notified you quickly. Congratulations.

Lucky - I got the right seat of the EMB170, May 30 class date. Maybe I'll see you on a flight in the near future!

Congrats again on your achievement. Good luck with training and enjoy! |
chq still hiring??
I sent my resume via e-mail on Feb 21st and still receive no reply from them. I have over 4000 hrs TT and 2300 Jet time. I thought they would be interested on me. Am I missing something?

Corp,
I would say persistence pays off. If you want Republic Airways to call, send in a resume once a week or so. It's what I did when I was applying to the regionals. Good Luck |
dawg thanks a lot for your answer. I will start doing that right now.

Rumor has it that we (RAH) will be hiring like mad in the fall with this new CoEx deal. Heard 100 per month planned at Flight Safety. Good luck. I think back to my interview and laugh at what a bunch of BS it really is.

rytheflyguy, when you go to STL for training make sure you sign up for a fridge asap (at the hotel, $10) and if you can bring a car that will be very convenient for you. Not much healthy food around the hotel, flight safety is a 3 minute walk. Just thought I would give you the scoop, goodluck in training.
if you want more info PM me. |
I apologize if this has been discussed previously, but do new hires at RAH get paid monthly guarantee from day one of class or is there some other sort of "training" pay or none at all? How commutable are the junior lines? Are they typically afternoon starts and ends or am I looking at crash pad required coming from MSP?
Thanks a bunch. X-RJ85FO "Oh great, the dreaded 3-engine approach!" |
To answer a couple of questions...
I think we are still hiring a few on the 170 right now. I'll probably be headed over that way in the Fall (seat locked for 2 years). You can always go to the 145 as an FO and upgrade to the 170. The pay is the same. Hopefully within the next couple of years we will just become Republic Airways and have 1 certificate. No more Shupubliqua. There are rumors floating around that we will be getting a lot more 170s for Delta here pretty soon once they get their TA straightened out. As far as commuting from MSP, STL would be your choice base. It's one of our few bases that actually is a hub as opposed to an outstation (in terms of where turns originate) and therefore the trips are much better and commutable. Show times are across the board generally, but typically only the outstation bases have the 5AM stuff (ick). The only thing about STL is that if you upgrade there you will be getting paid the 140 capt. rate which averages about $7 lower than the 145 and I think about $11 below the 170. Good luck... Oh yeah, training pay is horrible. When I went through 3.5 years ago it was about $200/week. |

You mentioned that RAH will have 1 certificate. Does this mean that they will only be flying for Delta under the Delta Connection alliance or does that include other airlines that operate under the Delta Connection alliance? This is a issue that has been confusing to me. For example, when hired by RAH, under the Delta Connection, I could be flying an a/c with USAir, CAL, or United markings...correct? atp |

I really appreciate everyone's info on pay/base/etc. I am really struggling with the decision to move on. XJ's fate is still hanging in the balance and there is NO indication if recalls are coming sooner than later. RAH seems like a great place to start over, new deliveries, decent pay in yrs 2 and up, and a DIVERSIFIED business plan that includes more than one bloody mainline partner. How long is reserve running for new hires based on current numbers? Anyone know if RAH is in the running for the NWA CRJ flying? I don't even know if they were a bidder. NWA is still tight lipped about the RFP results, if they have even made a decision yet. X-RJ85FO "It's not broke, it's British." |
Thanks for the info etops!
Corp - I'd send again. According to a friend that works in the office there, they had an HR transistion at the end of February and apparently resumes sent to the prior person did not make it to the new person. Good luck! |
first year @ chq
what are you guys making during the first year at chq, average? Just curious
|
Etops or any other current republic folks - any thoughts on training? I'm in St. Louis May 30th to June 7. I'm quite sure there is more training, but they haven't told me what, when or where.
I'm assuming business casual attire is appropriate? Any thoughts on things I might need I wouldn't think of? Is there time between the sim and IOE or straight in (do I need to take a uniform, which I haven't yet had the opportunity to order)? Anyone know what is the jr. base for Shuttle FOs? Thanks in advance! |

As far as I understand it, it said that no non-wholly owned code share can operate both 50 AND 70+ seat aircraft. So, we created Republic. However, the Republic certificate took well over 2 years to complete. Just another paperwork nightmare. So in the interim, when we picked up the United and Delta 170 flying we acquired Shuttle America and their pilots and put the 170's on their already established certificate. As far as I'm concerned it's just a stupid formality that needs to go away and I'm sure that's how our management views it as well. With regards to diversification, Bedford has done an excellent job with the company. It's almost like our own version of hedging. There are rumors of talks with the NWA as well. -Sike |

Thanks in advance! No you do not need a uniform! A week or so into training a guy will come and measure you etc etc, please don't get pleaded pants they are ugly! Business casual is appropraite, when you have been there for two weeks you will stop ironing too and not care. You get your ID badge the 3rd day your there, so you can jumpseat home om the weekends! you will be in STL longer than that probably 4 weeks. Work out clothes if you plan on working out ( i forgot those), as far as everything else goes they provide you with everything books for class, jepps etc etc they give those to you, you might want to bring your FAR/AIM FAR/FC, flashcards. Flight safety gives you a bag to carry your books in, and some goodies. There's a laundromat next to arby's that's in walking distance, some fastfood chains. If it's driveable i would bring your car (but realize you will be everybody's driver and the DD). The hotel van won't take you further than 5 miles, but if you bribe the weekend guy that works at night ($5-10 bucks a person he will take you where ever you want to go that's reasonable.) When you check into the hotel make sure you have reservations that are longer than a month (we got screwed.) They serve breakfast at the hotel, waffles, oatmeal, muffins, fruit. Flight Safety serves breakfast as well, cheerios, oatmeal and donuts, fruit. (that's why you bring your workout clothes). Both Flight Safety and the hotel are free of charge. Depending on the sims (the 170 sim in STL is brand new and still has some flaws so they are running behind.) My class had to go to Montreal. You might go to Charlotte. You will have couple of days to several weeks of inbetween ground school and sim and IOE. Depends on circumstances though. Goodluck, it's not too bad, chill and you'll be fine. Will this work for you? :D |
Thanks Etops. I really appreciate it. :D
