What's up with this thread? Is SkyWest really furloughing 300. :(
|
I think the site is way out of whack.

jetset is 100% correct. This only relates to ground personnel. Not that it makes life any easier for those "furloughed" (as Delta states), but at least it's not anymore Flight Deck personnel.

This doesn't make any sense, majors outsourcing their jobs to themselves? It's a new concept.

My guess is the Skywest personnel had seniority. Delta can give them the boot and bring in new hires at a fraction of the pay and bennies. I don't think there is a union there, so what's to stop them. A manager probably presented an outline of how to cut ground costs there and the big tuna's higher up patted him on the back. AMR's been doing a version of this for years. In many of the small/medium cities served by both AA and Eagle, they cleaned house the same and brought in Eagle employees (usually new-hires with a manager transferred from elsewhere). Usually AA follows DAL, but this time DAL took a page from the AMR playbook. |
Yes as for now no FLT crews are affected but come fall we’ll see. If the company doesn’t achieve the numbers they are looking for with attrition, VLOA’s and PTL’s then the F bomb will find it's way to St. George. If Jerry and Friends do furlough then look for around 100-150 pilots to come off the list. Yes we are overstaffed by more but many will be saved by attrition, VLOA's and PTL's.
Hopefully I can help those on the bottom of our list by getting out of here and ending this insane commute between ATL and FAT. |
Dang I was hoping since this post hit just as the site went down the conspiracy theorists would be going berserk. Really glad to hear the 300 isn't including any pilots (but stinks nonetheless)

just remember everyone, it takes a lot more than pilots to run an airline. i have seen several good people here at pinnacle let go of, none of which were pilots, and it is tough. These 300 people on the ground there are the same as you and me. they all have families and people that look to them for their needs. this is a tough time in the world let alone our industry. i hope that the majority of them are going to be picked up by mainline. losing a job right now is even tougher based on the fact that no one else is hiring, anywhere.
