This is only the beginning. If airlines want to stop it they should have air tight scope, of which United does not. The union can be concerned by they will not be able to do anything about it. Still this seems more of a codeshare for UA, since aerlingus is the one that will be operating it.

"United will provide marketing muscle to the partnership as well as passengers from Dulles, its second-largest hub. The Irish carrier will contribute three new Airbus A330 jets to the Europe-based venture and recruit pilots who aren't employees of either airline to fly them."

I would say this is alot more than just another code share. They're basically creating the Gojet of international carriers.
