Wait, why isn't this on deltanet?!?

Just kidding. Looking at deltanet is about as accurate as the North Korean news.

No shocker in STL. I'm sure they were lookin' for some new bling bling

fjetter 03-22-2009 10:32 AM

I know some from BDL got busted a few weeks ago. Is STL a DGS station or subcontractor? I know in BDL its a DGS station and I'm not suprised.

JoeyMeatballs 03-22-2009 10:37 AM

and these guys dont get screening that we do when going to work.............what a joke, our society has failed on so many levels...................

captjns 03-22-2009 10:50 AM

Same airline different paint job. Same news different day.

This story only reinforces my new favorite saying: "Act Your Wage." If somebody's making $18,000/year, they should behave like they're 18 years old. I'm sure that if the ground agencies payed more money, they could employee people who were not of this moral fiber and would behave accordingly. But you get what you pay for.

Hovernut 03-22-2009 12:32 PM

They need some screening ON THE WAY OUT!!

Definitely a "get what you pay for" type thing. You pay for thugs, you get thugs. Same with the wheel chair pushers and aircraft cleaners. I have always loved the fact that I have to go through a background check, an airline hiring process and a gate agent to gain access to the $25 million airplane I am entrusted with but some punk with a GED and a criminal record gets free access to the aircraft and their contents. Well done folks.

Saab, I'm with you man and award society in general an epic fail.

Saab, I'm with you man and award society in general an epic fail.

Here is a list of disqualifying crimes for airport access.

Forgery of certificates, false making of aircraft, and other aircraft registration violations.

Interference with aircraft navigation.

Improper transportation of a hazardous material.

Aircraft piracy.

Interference with flight crew members or flight attendants.

Commission of certain crimes aboard aircraft in flight.

Carrying a weapon or explosive aboard an aircraft.

Conveying false information and threats.

Aircraft piracy outside the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States.

Lighting violations involving transporting controlled substances.

Unlawful entry into an aircraft or airport area that serves air carriers or foreign air carriers contrary to established security requirements.

Destruction of an aircraft or aircraft facility.

Murder

Assault with intent to murder.

Espionage.

Sedition.

Kidnapping or hostage taking.

Treason.

Rape or aggravated sexual abuse.

Unlawful possession, use, sale, distribution, or manufacture of an explosive or weapon.

Extortion.

Armed robbery.

Distribution of, or intent to distribute, a controlled substance.

Felony arson.

Conspiracy or attempt to commit any of the aforementioned criminal acts.

What's the problem with that list...no shortage of convicts that have never done any of these things, or at least been convicted! Note some common crimes "assault", "theft", "robbery", "burgulary" are not on the list . But if they added these, the airlines would actually have to find responsible people and pay the ramp guys/gals a livable wage!

CANAM 03-22-2009 04:32 PM

Treason? I can't believe treason is on the list. I recall speaking with a guy the other day that did some time for treason. Just kidding. If they did have regular, run of the mill, crimes on the list - there would be a very small pool to hire from. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great people out there doing a hard job everyday. There are also alot of people with convictions for "grand theft auto" (and I don't mean the PS3 variety).

Noseeums 03-22-2009 07:21 PM

I think we all know this is ALLOWED to go on at most major airports. Even the TSA has been caught stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of personal items / equipment out of checked bags and it still goes on.

KC10 FATboy 03-22-2009 07:26 PM

I guess we should be happy. Our lost baggage figures are going to be better now that these thugs are behind bars.

So, I guess that first year airline pilots should act 15 to 18 too? That's the first year First Officer pay at a regional airline, and you trust us with not only your bags, but your life:D

Actually, judging by the Oakleys, iPods, backpacks and overall hygene and style, that's pretty darn close...

And what about the folks who "work" at outfits where you pay to sit in the right seat? Should they act like fetuses?http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/im...ons/icon10.gif

If you've flown through St. Louis recently, you may want to check to see if you can account for everything you had in your checked luggage.
So that's where my maglite went.

While I agree with the rest, wearing Oakley sunglasses somehow makes you immature? please explain.

No kidding. How about all of the Military and Law Enforcement using Standard Issue Oakleys? Immature?

CANAM 03-23-2009 08:37 AM

I think he was being sarcastic about the Oakley sunglasses. He was just making a point that more and more regional FOs look like Napolean Dynamite. Last week I saw two FOs in CLE walking around with their hats sideways. I was stunned.

SIDEWAYS!!!!?

You've gotta be kidding me, if so, even if they were doing it to joke around, someone should have slapped them in the face....

Ok, bit my lip long enough. You are painting with an awful broad brush here my friends. Where do I even begin....Thugs and criminals are thugs and criminals, no matter what uniform they wear, SIDA/ID they sport, or how many strpies on thier shoulders. I'm sure none of you have ever had anything (or heard of anyone having had) swiped out of a crew room/flight deck etc...(read sarcasm). Screening....Yep, the very same you get, AND US Customs, and the Postal Service. Did they do that for you? Screening on a daily basis? Depends on what ramp you work. Dulles for example, everyone, every day goes through a TSA checkpoint. Not so at all airports, but it does happen.

There are PhD's on ramps, and at gates just as there are HS diplomas in the right and left seats. In the minority? Sure. Point being, loose the generalizations. The morons who did this should be, of course, terminated post haste and prosecuted. Things like this give everyone on an airline payroll a black eye. And the payscale is no excuse. Times are tough for all of us, and that's not a free pass to commit larceny. But for you as an 'airline guy' to take a swipe at everyone who works below the wing is, frankly, ignorant. If you want your status to give you special dispensation to do certain things, then act the part. Statements like that, and others on this thread are reminiscent of someone who can't see past thier own nose, or preconcieved notions.

These guys are crminals, plain and simple. But absent a system that predictivley precludes applicants based on what they might do, and with no prior record, this will continue to happen. The system is reactionary by it's nature, and is only as good as those that oversee it. Until then, how about compentent and honest until proven otherwise? Or, alternatively, since you feel the way you do, how about you do it? Didn't think so. So, let's shake hands, banish these rejects and get on with our lives mutually respecting eachother? Key word...mutually. Not all pilots are over paid prima donnas, that needs to stop too.

So, let's break out the giant bag of chips, ten gallon vat of salsa and fire up some Sports Center. I'll bring the keg....

Rant over...
