Express Jet bases

I was wondering which of the three bases at Express Jet were senior? How hard would Houston be to hold out of ground school? Also, are most new hires on reserve in New Jersey? Any help or anything else( I know about the 69 airplanes) about Express Jet would be great. Thanks

CLE is by far the most senior base. CLE has about 100 lines, IAH about 520, and EWR around 275 to give you an idea of size. EWR is junior for CA and FO's. Some new hires get IAH out of training, but majority will go to EWR to sit reserve. You will attain a line fastest in EWR. Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply. Any rough guess on how long reserve would be? I would try for IAH, any guess on how long that would take to hold somthing? Thanks agian.

FWIW, I'm based in IAH and this is my first month with a relief line after 6 months on reserve.

Laxrox43 05-15-2006 07:10 AM

I have a buddy at EWR that was on reserve for ONLY 3 months...that's pretty darn good if you ask me...

erjpilot 05-15-2006 07:49 AM

Yeah, What they said. Probably around 6 months for IAH and 3 for EWR. What a lot of people do is get a line in EWR and keep that until they can hold a relief line in IAH then make the switch.

Trips

Thanks to all of you. What kind of trips are out of IAH? 2 day 3 day 4 day? I'm sure it has all of them. I don't know anyone at Express Jet to fill me in.

Otter,

Who are you flying the DHC6 for? How long have you been at it? That is an awesome plane!!!

Expressjet is a very flexible company to work for. Trips are 1,2,3,4 days long. What you get Depends on your preference and your seniority. Reserve is usually 4 days on 3 days off with a 2 hour show time. There is also a long call reserve with 12 hour show time.

Good Luck

I fly the Otter for Scenic. The otter is kind of awesome. It will teach you how to make good crosswind landings and takeoffs. It will also bite you if your not carefull. Scenic is almost always hirring, drop a line and see. It's a fun place to work. On the Express Jet note it sounds like a good place to work.

I got Houston right out of training. Hey Booker, was that really 6mos. on reserve, or 6mos. from your class date?

Yep, it was actually six bid periods (months) on reserve. My DOH was 8/29, I finished IOE around 11/10, and May is my first month with a relief line. I was number 67 in the second round for May; I'm number 25 for June, but a few people bid down (for days off, I'm guessing).

Also, to add to the response about trips out of IAH, once you get a relief line you can do some shuffling with your schedule via trip trades, especially if you're concerned about trip length. I live in IAH, and I haven't spent a single night in a hotel yet this month. You've really got to watch open time like a hawk, though, to make it work.

What are the mins for Scenic??? It seems like a great starting point.

It's going to be longer than three months in EWR right now because there is little to no movement at the moment. When we were hiring and upgrading like crazy the first half of the year, that was when three months (it happened to me) was the norm. Someone hitting the line this month is probably going to sit reserve at least through early next year I would think, unless we start hiring or upgrading more. Attrition out of 2800 or so pilots is only about 12-16/month right now.

Yeah I realized that too late and just said "screw it."

He is right though we have quit hiring for the time being. Rumor is starting again in the fall. (I'll believe it when I see it) As far as IAH, you will not get it at first because all the last new hires got CLE or EWR. I am one of those trying to get to Houston with no hope in sight unless we hire again.

For the crj side you are correct.

I heard there are some crj classes. Hopefully, there will be on both planes soon.

Can anyone help with the base(s) that would be senior in the ERJ.

DEN for sure. 2007 hire is the most junior person on property.

In EWR crashpads are anywhere from $200 up to $250.

No idea about IAH.
