when you travel international you need both your greencard and your passport!

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, you need a visa to remain in the United States, if it's for a year or 10 years whatever the occasion is there are special visas.
A greencard isn't really a visa, greencard holders basically have the same rights to work as a US citizen. However when you want to enroll in flight training be it 61 or 121 etc you have to get a background check done, that is accomplished by TSA and the company you work for. TSA relays your info to you and your company and all your company has to do is approve you for work, and state that they are indeed hiring you to fly for them.
So to kind of answer your question (or at least I hope to have) regardless of what country your from you need a visa.

I know for a fact that Pinnacle and skywest both hire people with greencards.
i don't really think there is an airline out there that doesn't, but I could be mistaken.

I don't know the answer to the question as I know next to nothing when it comes to visas, but I believe I understand the question. I think etops777 missed the point – here's a scenario – imagine you are a citizen of Patagonia, or worse still, Nomanslandia. You have a green card so that's great – you can live and work in the USA and you can come and go as you please. But you want to go to Mexico? Well, you need a visa. Going to Canada? Visa required too. Going to Brazil? Sorry, you need a visa. Any country you want to go to – you need a visa because you are from an unpopular country. Now how inconvenient can that be?

My dear friend, I am a green Card holder for about 4 months now....yes u can work for any egional airline with a green card or work permit as far as you have a valid passport and the right to re-entry the country(USA)...
Now...that is for regionals...Majors.......95% they want you to be USA citizen...the reason is that in some countrys you need visa in order to go there so...being a citizen kind of eliminates the paperwork for issuing the visa

As far as the TSA clearance it took me 2 weeks to get clear to start with my CL-65 training.

the TSA clearance should be easier for subsequent type ratings. The hassle is for the initial one.

Yes! sgrd0q got the point. Unfortunately, no answer to the problem yet. So pilotara, are you saying that regional airlines don't go anywhere that requires visas for non-citizens, but majors do? I understand that anyone would need a passport to go international, and green card holders would need their green card and passport, but don't any pilots need a visa to get into the non USA country? Is there some kind of exemption for the crew members?

The more I think about this, the more confused I get..:confused:
