Delta Air Lines, Inc. Q1 2009 Earnings Call

Delta Air Lines, Inc. Q1 2009 Earnings Call Transcript -- Seeking Alpha

I have no idea of this means DAL is doing and and DCI will be ok or DAL is gonna be ok and DCI is gonna get shafted or...

The fact the all the losses this quarter was just fuel hedges from last yr and special items is promising since fuel prices are lower now.

James Pilcher – The Cincinnati Inquirer

Can you give me any specifics on how the new fare system is operating here.

And as a follow-up, can you also talk about how the process is going with the new regional handling subsidiary between Comair and Mesaba and how that whole transition is going? With the announcement today that you’re going to cut 30 RJs, how does that impact the local CVG hub?

Richard H. Anderson

I can address the issue on the ground-handling subsidiary. You know, the purpose behind pulling our ground-handling subsidiary was to continue to maintain separate operations at each carrier, that to have consistency in our customer experience across all of the Delta Connection carriers. And that work is well under way and it’s going well.

As we look out at the regional carrier reductions, those reductions, given the size of the fleet, will probably have minimal impact on staffing across the airports in the regional carrier network. Because we operate a fairly large fleet, it will have a minimal impact in terms of staffing and the extent to which it does have any impact will once again work to mitigate that as best we can with our regional carrier partners.

Glen W. Hauenstein

We have been very, very pleased with the response from the people in Cincinnati and northern Kentucky to the lower fare structures that we put in place there a little over a month ago now. And so we are continuing to hope that people continue to use that service and we are able to keep those similar structures in place.

Of course, fares change so they will migrate up and down, depending on the demand in the market, but in general we’re very, very happy with the response that we’ve gotten to the lower fare structures in Cincinatti.

Did they dodge the whole future of Mesaba and Comair question?

30 RJ's...that would be about equivalent to mesa. Maybe that's what he's talking about?

I dunno about that. I hope so but I have a feeling we'll all spread the wealth on that one.

Maybe.... bothers me they keep dodging the Comair questions.... got a lotta friends there.

I would imagine some of the 30 aircraft will come from Comair and I believe ASA will be sending -200s back once they start receiving the -900s, but I can't remember if that is this year or not. Time will tell!

We would have heard something by now if it was related to the Mesa case. About two weeks left until the 90 days is up for the decision.

Hopefully it's just ASA's..they're losing 2-1..and they're getting around 15 900's no?..so that's 30 frames right there (i'm figuring that DL is counting the 900's as "already in the fleet")

Don't worry, they'll all come from Comair.

ASA is a 2 for 1 deal. Park 2 200s for 1 900, 1st 200 to be parked starting June of 2010. 20 200's total.

yeah i was going to say the same thing. 20 of those reductions are already announced from asa. sad to say but i think the rest will come from comair.

Yep... we've already been hosed enough... might as well continue the fun. I think somewhere inside, mainline and OH management gets a rise out of us being on the street.... but maybe I'm just bitter and cynical.

The Dick Anderson said Delta is removing 30 regional jets this year, perhaps he means the year 2009.

Comair has already lost 8 or 12 aircraft this year, plus 6 on "permanant loan" to other DCI carriers so they can keep flying while their aircraft are getting painted.

On the other hand, Delta has already taken 73 aircraft (give or take) from Comair since bankruptcy. What's 30 more?

3825 Delta

Either way, 30 out of the system is a lot of planes, about 250 pilots.
