Schone,

We all know that every airline has a percentage of tules. They exist in the right as well as left seats. Maybe the number is 5% or 10% or some other number. In a perfect world it would be 0%.

If you see that number rising, it could mean a couple different things;
  1. The pool of Captains is becoming more a$$holish. or.
  2. Your ability to tolerate little annoyances is decreasing.
I think the way it's supposed to work is we get to upgrade at about the time when we can no longer stand sitting in the right seat. It is like a natural progression. Unfortunately, we are in a stagnant period so some people may end up spending more time in the right seat than what is healthy.

If this describes you, I recommend developing a strategy to deal with it until the industry picks back up and you can follow the natural progression. Maybe strangling cats in the basement or yelling at the mail man for walking on your sidewalk.

Laserman:

I liked your list! Gave me good laugh :)

Unfortunately, I have to admit to my faults and I believe that i fall under category 2. My tolerance is growing thin. I am a firm advocate of let me do my job and i'll let you do yours. We obviously have the same goals about bending the metal or getting written up.

I don't know about cats tho, my wife has a thing for loving the living. Do you have any other suggestions? Tho I want to tell you that in a different lifetime that whole cats / basement thing might have been appealing ;-)

IBTPilot:

Actually, I'm one of those that don't mind the APU running while i'm in the hell hole. I make it a point to say that before I leave for my walkaround, and another point to clear on 3 as I walk around the cockpit in the begining of my preflight. Having that said, maybe I should try explaining that one wrong fuel hedging move and all of their cost savings goes down the drain for about 10 generations? Oh well, either way, I'm open to further suggestions should you have some for me?
