Montana Mods - Bose X

With all this talk of the QC2 in the majors and regional section I decided to poke around on the UFlyMike website. I found a new link to a company called montana mods and they make an adapter for the Bose X. It replaces the plastic cover in the other earcup that doesn't have the mike. This new cover has a 3.5mm jack for other things... namely for my sake... an ipod.

Has anyone bought one of these. Its so nice to find something that might work properly. Apparently the adapter sportys makes is garbage.. (its the only other one I have found)

If anyone has one a review would be nice.

Thanks

Aviation Headset Adapters

They offer several options. If you want "auto mute" they offer "the muse" which is like $230 or so.

If you wanna plug your ipod into the jumpseaters Jack so both crew members can hear: JB-26 iPOD/MP3 Player Intercom Adapter $33

If you're just going to plug your ipod in like you would with the adapter you speak of get the: JB-33 iPOD/MP3/CD Player Headset Adapter $33

Personally I just went to radio shack and bought a Y jack, a mini jack-to large jack converter and a male-male mini jack cable, and plug the whole shebang between my headphone jack and the plug in on the airplane. Works great, I have to turn up the audio a little on the radios but otherwise no problem and I paid about 15 bucks at radio shack.

Disclaimer: of course you should use none of these while performing flight duties.

P.S. The reason I don't like the adapter that you suggested is that I think its annoying enough to have one cable hanging over your shoulder, much less 2...

The muse doesn't work in 'hot mic' aircraft. Tried it both the brasilia and crj. PS engineering says it won't work because the impedence is wrong. This one works great, but like joe said, you have to turn up atc a bit.

The second you alter the headset it loses it's TSO status. If your airline has a TSO requirement in it's Ops Spec you would then be in violation.

Are you talking about the cord or the montana mod thing? I highly doubt anyone would notice the montana mod adapter unless you are using it during a line check or something idiotic like that. But I agree, it would be altered and loose it's "tso", whatever that means.

so when does the TSO go away? When you put gel ear pads on your DC headsets? When you replace a plastic ear cup housing?

Easy fix - DC X11's, they come with everything you need. You can even use your cell phone through the headset. And if your batteries go dead w/no replacements the X11's will still work unlike the bose. Nothing against the Bose they're a great product, just compare if your shopping for a new set up.

Sell you bose and get a zulu they already have the jack stock, you can prob get enough from your bose on ebay to just trade out.

1. the DC X11 sucks, but looks cool
2. Bose are great, but no aux input for ipod or phone
3. Lightspeed Zulu, A little bigger than bose but has everything you could want. VERY comfortable.

I have used all 3 a lot. That is all................
