I feel so dirty chuckling at that.

If you ever fly international, they will ask for your pilot's license number. Not smart to give out your SS# to a Mexican custom agent.

The FAA has started a program to remove Social Security Numbers from FAA issued certificates.

If you want to remove your SSN from your certificate, and trust me you should, go here http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certific...SSN_Change.pdf

That was years ago it started, you shouldn't have a certificate with your SSN on it if you have gotten a rating since 2002.

no you still have to go physically change it on the website. I've got a type rating and english proficiency on mine since 02 and in both cases the Feds did not voluntarily change my cert number from my SS.

Did you ask them to? I had mine changed by a FAA inspector after he completed my checkride, but of course I asked. No computer necessary.

point is you have to ask for it, the Fed's aren't just going to do it because you got a new rating.

My certificate # was changed to a non SS based # in April 2006. I did not ask. Heck, I was not even aware of the change until late 2007. How often do you look @ your certificate #? Well, I don't often do it. I checked the address, the spelling of the name, and the ratings and endorsements, not the certificate #.

The point is you should ask for it, but you don't always have to.

interesting info I, and everyone else i know, had to ask for it. oh well ignore my previous post :)

When I got my CFI back in 2003(?), it was not even a choice at the GRR FSDO. He said this is your new cert number, and I asked if I could keep the old one. He responded no I couldn't but it's for you own security.
