Ils Y

KVPS...ILS Y 19 and ILS Y 30.....does anyone know where you can find what the Y means? I'm quite sure I know what it means, but I can't find it in a book anywhere....

I'm not familiar with the airport, but ILS Y 19 must also have an ILS Z 19, and likewise for 30. Whenever there is more than one of the same type approach serving the same runway, they are numbered backwards alphanumerically.

I quote from AIM Section 5 (5-4-5):

"The naming of multiple approaches of the same type to the same runway is also changing. Multiple approaches with the same guidance will be annotated with an alphabetical suffix beginning at the end of the alphabet and working backwards for subsequent procedures (ILS Z RWY 28, ILS Y RWY 28, etc.)"

the reason for the Y and Z...unlike what is stated in the forum that was posted above is because there are different missed approach procedures for the same ILS to the same runway...Thanks for the help, just was looking for a source with some credit, and I think the AIM will sufice
