Colgan

Is the maintenance at Colgan Air crap? I read a post that said so somewhere.

HAHAH thats funny well I have been there for 7 months and yes there are a lot of MEL's and the SAABS do break a lot but all in all they do a pretty good job, just make sure to do a thorough pre-flight when they come out of heavy checks! today our nosehwheel steering was MEL'd heheeh that was fun!

Colgan had some problems back in "the old days". But that has been pretty well cleaned up. Our Saabs are old - average about 30000 hours per aircraft. But the company stays on top of them pretty good. I've noticed in the last year that fewer MEL's run to expiration. I just looked back at my flight records. In the past 12 months I've had to cancel just five flights for a mx problem and delay a total of 19 more than 10 minutes. That's out of a little over 750 flights. What's that...24/750 or 3.2%. I don't know how that relates to everyone else...I have twice as many wx cancels and delays.

Some of the guys who are based at the mx bases complain a little louder because they get stuck with the test and ferry flights that are normal to any airline operation.

it's getting much better...

If I have to ferry something they always ask if I feel comfortable with it first. If your not say no. I've said no and I still work here but most of the ferry flights are for stupid things like windshield wipers.
