StrikeTime 06-17-2009 06:36 AM

par8head 06-17-2009 06:36 AM

I was thinking the same exact thing, addressing bankruptcies, how the lack of job security prevents the airlines from retaining those with experience, etc etc. I'm not a big fan of Prater or ALPA for that matter but I definitely will give him credit for that strong opening statement.

par8head 06-17-2009 06:48 AM

Pay question was first question asked...

TPROP4ever 06-17-2009 06:48 AM

Cohen:
pilot compensation and pay is not related to safety
pay is competitive and adequate

SrfNFly227 06-17-2009 06:51 AM

I hate Cohen. I really do.

He actually just said that Regional Captains average 72,000 and FO's 32,000. Next he said pay was fair and competitive.

This guy cares nothing about improving our industry.

par8head 06-17-2009 06:52 AM

Prater is addressing base closures and transfers of flying from regional airline to regional airline

SrfNFly227 06-17-2009 06:54 AM

Way to go Prater. "We have one level of regulation. We do not have one level of safety.

StrikeTime 06-17-2009 06:59 AM

Roger Cohen should be prosecuted for the lies he has given in these hearings. I absolutely hate that guy.

par8head 06-17-2009 07:00 AM

They are really pushing for a centralized source of pilot history

StrikeTime 06-17-2009 07:03 AM

I'm not sure if I heard this correctly since I've been on and off the computer... but did Cohen imply that 3407 crashed due to a sterile cockpit violation?

pretty much...it is an easy out for him...they broke a rule!

That's actually probably pretty accurate and if anything a little low. My guess is it's a little bit higher than those numbers.

BE19Pilot 06-17-2009 07:18 AM

The hearing hasn't addressed the fact that the CVR was never conceptualized to be a monitoring or enforcement tool. And, it
(mark my words here), if this rule goes thru as some of these
people would like it to see. WE WILL have an accident in the
future related to the LACK of communication in the cockpit in
a critical phase of flight. Colgan 3407 IS NOT a landmark
accident, and the mistakes made by the crew seem remarkable.
Indeed there was a serious failing within the cockpit, but were
these failings any greater than NUMEROUS accidents in recent
history at legacy carriers. I think that this is political grandstanding,
and Colgan is being used as leverage to correct problems within
the industry that have NOTHING to do with preventing a similar
accident. Too many people with an agenda outside the realm of
safety are involved to the point where the NTSB findings will be
anti-climatic and almost a moot point. Hell, everything has already
been out in the open as it is...People have already prejudged the
accident, and setting a trend where the NTSB is replaced as the
"investigating arm by the "experts" in Congress.
Be very, very careful what you ask for people, because you just
might get it...And, it isn't going to be the changes you want to see.
The system is broke...The system is dysfunctional. There is NO single
level of safety. This is not going to change in the space of even a few
years. This is our reality. "Taking it back"? Good luck with that, and I
support ALPA. I am a proud member, but we are the ones under the
scrutiny, and as always pilots need to stand together, because these
friggin Senators could care less about us...

Sorry. I should have been more clear about the question he was answering. That answer was after a question about whether FO's were getting hired for as little as the equivalent of $10/hr. He did a great job dodging an honest question.

par8head 06-17-2009 07:31 AM

They are pounding pay...

Outlaw2097 06-17-2009 07:33 AM

just moved on to duty times...

B00sted 06-17-2009 07:33 AM

Cohen makes my blood boil.

Can you give us more details on what they said?

iPilot 06-17-2009 07:35 AM

Surprised this hasn't hit any of the news channels yet though perhaps this evening after its over?

Makes me so happy seeing some senators appearing to be on our side with these issues. Cohen unsuccessfully tap-dancing around the issues also makes me chuckle.

I know... me too, he's lying out of his teeth 90% of the time. Prater is doing an excellent job IMO.

B00sted 06-17-2009 07:47 AM

LOL!!! She just punked Cohen good! What a clueless fool.

Cohen is definatly coming across as someone who has somthing to Hide, which I am sure is the case..

familyguy 06-17-2009 07:51 AM

I couldn't agree with both of you any more. I have never been all that impressed by ALPA, but Prater is coming across as honest and very well prepared. He is answering these questions in a way that just may get something done.

Now the question is going to be what gets changed??? Let's not get all excited about it yet. We are bound to give up something we like, in order to fix something we don't. I just don't see any other way.

TPROP4ever 06-17-2009 08:03 AM

Uh Oh, while I think a lot of good things are being discussed, I sure hope this FAA REAUTHORIZATION VOTE, the senator is talking about, isnt a BIG BROTHER coming..

TPROP4ever 06-17-2009 08:06 AM

so does the sudden adjournment have anything to do with its lunch time....lol:D

Looks like the next hearing will have airline reps testifying. Monitor your blood pressure if you are going to watch...

SrfNFly227 06-17-2009 08:18 AM

Did they set a date for the next hearing???
