I agree 100% with that article. We need to make the barrier to entry into this industry much harder to improve things! 4 year degree plus testing to even qual for a comm ticket!

Yeah a 4 year degree gives mad skillage when flying, good thing i have that history degree otherwise wed be a smokin hole! also where can i pick up the prepware to memorize the answers for that test.

You people want to recover any semblance of a career from the wreckage of this industry? You should be trash-talking the regionals every chance you get, terrifying the traveling public into demanding mainline pilots and mainline safety. I'd agree that Prater's comments probably aren't in the interest of regional lifers, but they're certainly in the interest of all of you who have hopes of moving on to bigger & better things.

what barriers does this industry have to keep every little punk pilot wanna be to become an airline pilot, none. Delta haa masters preferred and BS required as they all should.

the military has these requirements as should civilian.

ALPA is a waste because it is NOT a union it is an ORGANIZATION.

I get all warm and fuzzy each paycheck knowing that a decent chunk of my already crappy pay is making Prater fatter and paying off all the booze consumed on there Vacations....ooops sorry i meant "Conferences".

Please....ALPA says that they are the reason why we have work rules....im sure all the SWA pilots are thinking "Hmmm My pay is pretty good for a 737....and my work rules are far better than most other airlines.....but I'll bet if ALPA steps in....my QOL and Pay will go straight through the roof!!!''

If Prater was worth his salt, wouldnt the CAL guys would have an Industry leading Contract???

And instead of ALPA making an attempt at solving a problem they say "Well we dont really like whats going on...and to prove it we are gonna print up stickers to show how angry we are"

I've said it before and ill say it again....for a Union to work properly here is what you need:

1: EVERYONE needs to be a member....no "In-House" Unions or "Non-Union" Airlines

2: We all need the EXACT same Work Rules...and they have to be good

3: We need to have Payscales that have a set minimum that we can make per size quipment, I.E.. $37.00 an hour is the Absolute Lowest 1st year wage that a 50 Seat regional FO can make.

Feel free to add anything else we would need.....if it wasnt for the fact that my FOM says i can get fired for not paying my Union dues....I never would have

It's been said over and over. ALPA (or anybody else) is only as good as your local MEC.

I've been at two ALPA carriers. One where the MEC had brass cajones and took little, if any crap from management. That was also at a time when national had waaaay more on their plate dealing with the legacy bk's and the "regioal" ALPA carriers interest's were barely even on their radar, if at all.

The other, well, just can't say the same unfortunately.

Support from national has nothing to do with it.

stop paying! its the only way to gain attention... how many times has your MEC bent over for your company and how many times has it supported you? how many concessions has it offered up and how little time has it invested in your grievances? hell the moto of my MEC is "fly/do it and grieve it later"... hell my MEC Chair is actually former company management. and i know a few of you out there are worried about whos gonna support you when the apocalypse comes... one word of it advice its not gonna be ALPA. You'll call them and leave messages and you'll be lucky to hear from them within confines of a month, and when you do... it will be some know nothing overworked secretary. i barely cleared 20K last year i'll be damned if im gonna fork over anything so prater can have another steak dinner in DC, and from the looks of his photo in the monthly propaganda leaflet that finds its way to my la basura shortly after arriving in the mail... he doesn’t need any more steak.
