More ASA Furloughs to be announced tomorrow..

I heard from a friend through a cheif pilot that ASA is to furlough up to the contract. The same friend talked to a guy on the ALPA furlough committee and he claims that the furloughs are to be announced tomorrow (7/13/2009.)

This info comming at the same time that Scott Hall sends out a mass e-mail about meetings in the pilot lounge over the next few days.

Join Charlie Tutt and Scott Hall for front-line meetings.

Monday, July 13 at 4 p.m.
Tuesday, July 14 at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. & 3 p.m.
Thursday, July 16 at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. & 3 p.m.
ATL Pilot Lounge

I know it's just speculation at this point, but it's what I heard.

It would seem several ALPA reps agree. Guess we'll know for sure tomorrow.

Gunga Galunga 07-12-2009 07:34 PM

please tell me this puts an end to the brad holt honeymoon

arizonastpilot 07-12-2009 07:38 PM

Good Luck guys! Seems like this furlough crap is never gonna come to an end.

Gunga Galunga 07-12-2009 07:47 PM

what is the total number not protected, 134?

gtechpilot 07-12-2009 07:48 PM

There are around 60 of us.

somertime32 07-12-2009 08:01 PM

well if it turns out to be true that will just be faaaannnntastic.....crap.....guess I better get used to tossing bags for awhile!

why are they having frontline meetings to announce this. last time didnt they just send out a few emails. its comforting knowing brad can send out the two people that everyone already doesnt like to break the news. i thought it was strange how the email said only scott and charlie were holding the meetings

Last time I think the chief pilots actually attempted to call everyone before anything official was announced. The frontline meetings are a strange twist though.

Just got the call. Didn't ask how many, but affective 1 September. Good luck to all.

gtechpilot 07-13-2009 05:02 AM

Just got mine too. Not unexpected, but still sucks.

NavyGSMC 07-13-2009 05:07 AM

I am with you brother. Did you ask if it was everyone not protected by the contract. I didn't think to ask how many.

JustAnotherPLT 07-13-2009 05:19 AM

They are in the process of calling 56 pilots today (everyone outside the furlough clause). ASA now will = 136 furloughed.

FlyASA 07-13-2009 05:45 AM

Well this sucks, we must be losing a ton of flying. I guess we aren't getting that rumored United flying (no surprise there)

The wait till Mesa goes bankrupt business plan has failed miserably, but at least we aren't going the RAH route and destroying the profession.

jsjohnson2 07-13-2009 05:49 AM

Losing 11,000hrs of flying starting in Sept

Avroman 07-13-2009 05:57 AM

Eleven THOUSAND? How much do you do right now in a month?

FlyASA 07-13-2009 06:00 AM

11,000 hours?!?!? Don't we only do like 40,000 hours a month?

TP199 07-13-2009 06:04 AM

i have a horrible feeling that this is "out of the company's control" and they can furlough as many as they want. is the number 56 for sure?

Aviatormar 07-13-2009 06:05 AM

I have a question, what is the last new hire class that is protected under the no furlough clause?

gtechpilot 07-13-2009 06:20 AM

According to the union, it would take bankruptcy to furlough more. I think the November classes were the last covered.

I think SH said we did 47,000 hrs this month and will be reduced to 36,000 hrs in September.

jsjohnson2 07-13-2009 06:26 AM

I Think November 26 or 19th 2007 is the last class to be covered under contract

The last protected class is 11/19/2007. I know someone in it and checked their new hire date in the OurASA directory.

So, why is there nothing on OurASA about this yet?

They'll probably wait till everyone is officially notified, though I'm sure they already know by now.

Sorry to hear that things are only getting worse over there too. Best of luck to the furloughed guys. Just do what I do, take the unemployment, enjoy the time off and hope you get called back and can get to a major before reaching 40.

broncoflyer8912 07-13-2009 07:03 AM

Yes the November 19th class was the last to be protected, we started the day before the contract was signed. I am so sad to hear this news, I have a bunch of friends who are now out on the street, hopefully we can get them back soon!
