It's amazing how many passengers think that when you lose an engine you end up nose diving straight into the ground. Too many movies I guess.

That sounds like 50 pax and 4 crew, I know it is just a technicality, and it's just the media, but still makes me laugh.

Jetlinker 07-22-2009 08:48 AM

Lap children count too.

ExperimentalAB 07-22-2009 08:57 AM

AX had to shut one down going into ORD this week too...it's an epidemic!!

I know, that was my reaction at first too, then I thought about B 747, A340, DC-8, A 380, etc.

Hey I sucessfully (in the sim) limped an Avro RJ85 around the pattern on one engine....

And of course any jet flown by a mainline pilot can be flown on one engine. Now the regional jets..... Didn't the Colgan Senate hearings teach you anything?

Boomer 07-22-2009 08:07 PM

I guess they didn't foam the runway because it was raining?

I guess you dont know what your talking about.
Good job to the crew!

powrful1 07-23-2009 10:02 AM

foaming runways usually happen when you have to belly land an aircraft and want to prevent ignition of a spark to the fuel......good to hear that everyone was ok.

Diver Driver 07-23-2009 10:08 AM

Knowing Boomer, he was kidding.

That is always one of my favorite CRJ200 questions. What is the maximum "souls on board" for this aircraft? 80% always get this question wrong.

Any guesses???

104 sob

50 seats = 50 paxs; each pax has a lap child under 2 years old

1 captain

1 fo

1 FA

1 jumpseater

now does the crj200 have a FA jumpseat? if so, 105 sob

but hell that would be weight restricted anyways so 80% of 104 sob x pie and don't forget to FOIL = ??

how many infant life vests and pax o2 masks are there? those are the limiting factors

ACEAV8R 07-23-2009 12:43 PM

cannot be 103. i think the extra life vest is only on one side of the aircraft(i think right, been gone too long). also no lap children in the exit row, in the row before the exit row and in the row after the exit row. only one child per row.

ACEAV8R 07-23-2009 12:44 PM

may i guess 72 or 73 souls?

UnlimitedAkro 07-23-2009 01:01 PM

Three pages of junk and one post about "freedom emergency landing in CVG". Go figure.

CRJPlt 07-23-2009 01:49 PM

65 SOB they don't call it a CL-65 for no reason. The name just stuck for the 700 and 900 even though they can hold more SOB.

50 pax
11 lap children (Right side only has o2(12 rows) can't be in exit row
2 Pilots
1 Jumpseater
1 FA
=65 SOB

There are only 3 infant vests along with the extra oxygen masks on the right side of the airplane. Therefore, 53 max passengers....57 max souls on board with 3 crew and a jumpseater.

NOTE: This is an AWAC limitation, other carriers could carry more vests on board.

mynameisjim 07-23-2009 02:12 PM

I'm glad the crew called an 'alert' for landing.

wizepilot 07-23-2009 06:31 PM

I like the way we use SOB for souls on board. Stands for something else too!:D
