Checking NOTAMS...

USA Today article talking about an EXPRESS carrier CLT-CHS cancelling "mid-air" because of an airport closer...

The best quote too is this: "we thought the airport would stay open a little later for us"

On the brighter side, at least they didnt land on a closed runway with contruction going on!

So who paid for the hotel rooms for this mistake it wasnt Airways fault it was republic's fault or could they blame both the weather and the charleston airport authority?

Leave it up to Republic to do something so dumb.

But but but we're Republic, are you seriously not going to leave the airport and tower open for US?

Probably clueless that CHS is an Airforce base and the tower is a military tower.

I've witnessed, via Deltamatic, an ASA flight boarding at 11:30 PM for a 50 minute flight to FAY, when the airport closes at 12:00 AM for runway construction. We ended up calling Flight Control to remind them to check their NOTAMs.

There's also been a few times where I've had to contact the airport authority to delay their construction as we have an inbound flight that's not going to make the curfew.

Construction continues...would not surprise me if this situation arises...

It would be interesting to see how this went down. It appears, from the article, that the company was in contact with the tower and appears they were allowed to land late. Otherwise, why would they takeoff? But it seems something changed in flight.

I also think the tread's title is misleading. The company was aware of the airport closure, it just appears they thought they would be able to massage the situation a little -- which airlines do a lot with things like this.

Yep....

Or typical regional dispatcher just telling you what you wanted to hear to get you to launch. "The tower will stay open, don't worry.. you'll be fine."

Agreed. I've certainly massaged field hours before on many occassions.
