4-Year degree no longer required, but definitely a plus. ATP written required since you will be issued an ATP with PIC type in the 170/190. DTW goes junior, but like the guy above said, you will be able to hold MSP pretty quickly (1 or 2 months, if not immediately). 25 more new hires through the summer, waiting on word from DL if they're going to take some flows this fall for attrition next year. Flows are (almost) guaranteed in 2013 due to retirements....as long as the economy doesn't take a ******* and oil doesn't skyrocket (knock on wood)

Was at HQ yesterday, and talked to someone in management.

Mins are:
-§61.159 ATP Mins (1500TT, 500XC, 100 Night, 75 Instrument)
-additionally 500 ME, (possibly lowering to 100ME)
-ATP Written
-1st Class Med.
-FCC License

Additionally, they like to see:
-Minimum of a 4 yr degree (it's only preferred, they haven't hired anyone without it in years.)
-GPA of 3.0 or more
-Clean training history (61, 141, 135, 121)
-NO accidents, incidents, or violations
-Clean driving record
-"Clean employment history" with "progressive career advancement"

They're going to spool up hiring for something coming up in 2013 (not sure what, but I'm sure many will speculate) Current seniority list consists of about 440 pilots and 340 have flow to Delta. My guess is something to do with that.

Looking at the last bid award; about 314 are eligible to flow, I estimate about 310 will take the flow (if it gets to them before they get calls from WN, FX, EK, AS, B6 etc.)
The award shows a total of 424 pilots. The union (or was it the company) has estimated we need ~450 pilots (440 seems more realistic).

The speculation: matters little, it is likely a company carrot to speed ALPA negotiations. Don't worry, everyone I've flown with sees right through it, and our contract negotiations can only (contractually) last about a year anyway.

I do have both and my ATP. Could you give me some insight as to what it would truly be like for a first year guy there? The more info I can get the better.

How long would I be on reserve? And do you see some flying time while on reserve usually?
What would a first year guy expect to really make to include per diem and everything. (I know you don't have exact, but maybe an average?)
How long is training when I come back? Especially with sim? What is the average cost of housing out there around the training facilities?
When you go out there for the two day class and then go home for 3 weeks, is that paid time? Is it also paid time while we are in training and sim?

Any info is helpful, even it if isn't one of these questions. I really appreciate it!

How long would I be on reserve? And do you see some flying time while on reserve usually? It is hard to say how long you would be on reserve. Depending on when your hired you may have guys in class right behind you, or you may not for a few months. So depending on that it could be a month or it could be a lot longer.

What would a first year guy expect to really make to include per diem and everything. (I know you don't have exact, but maybe an average?)

I would say around 23,000 first year not including per diem. It is really hard to say how much you will make in per diem. Factors like how long you are on reserve, how much you fly on reserve will all play into this.

How long is training when I come back? Especially with sim? What is the average cost of housing out there around the training facilities?

When you get back it is about 2 months until you finish your PIC checkride. I found a place to stay for $190 a month while I was in training.

When you go out there for the two day class and then go home for 3 weeks, is that paid time? Is it also paid time while we are in training and sim?

The home study is paid, but it is only 15 hours. The contract says they must pay have of what the course is worth, and the FAA says the home study is worth 30 hours.

Once you come back from the home study you will start to get guarantee, which is 75 hours.

Great. That answers a lot. One more question I have is about Canada. Does Compass go into Canada? If so, I have heard a lot about how Canada doesn't allow people in with certain things on their records. (like dui's and things) I was a stupid kid 9 years ago and got a misdemeanor for using fireworks. Ya... Funny at the time... Not anymore. Does anyone know if this can affect me being allowed into Canada? I don't have any alcohol related incidents or anything at all though. Thanks.

Apparently the only thing you CAN and get into canada is smoke a joint.

Seriously it's hit or miss with those things. Most would probably say you'll have no problem. I know at 10 years anything you do (misdemeanor) automatically gets rehabilitated.

I was hired mid April last year, finished training in mid July, and was on reserve through December. January was a partial line, Feb and March were CDO lines, and April will be a regular line. I never got within 20 hours of breaking min guarantee during the reserve months. This month I was able to trade out most of my CDO trips and get to about 80 hours. That is not a given though. Last month I wasn't able to swap any. As far as the paycheck on reserve goes, figure 75 hours plus about $150 for per diem each month. You might do better than $150 some months, but others less. If you bring a car up for training you can find a crashpad away from the training center. Or, you can find someone in your training class to share a hotel room with, and just use their shuttle. It is expensive no matter which way you go.

Nice! That is exactly what I was looking for. Are you a commuter? If so, what is the crash pad availability like? More importantly, any idea on how to get my resume noted over there? I have 2300 hrs and my ATP. I don't know anybody over there though. I am just impressed with the E-175 from an outsiders perspective. Thanks!

Crashpads can be a little bit difficult to find. Not impossible though. You should be able to get an interview with your time.
