To the pilots of ACEY 5450 04SEP09...

I was one of the pilots flying the mainline jet over NY (EWC vortac) heading to ATL at FL340, you were at FL360. You tried everything in the book in order to race in front of us. We offerred to fly at M.78 and tried to maintain that speed. I realize this was slower than what you requested; however, this was the best we could do. What you weren't hearing on the radio, due to us being handed off before you, was that we were flow restricted to 20NM in trail of another aircraft heading into ATL and we were told to maintain first M.78 and then M.76 or less.

I realize you were running late, we heard you whine about it several times to ATC. Although I appreciate you trying to get your, our passengers to their connection/destination on time, have some respect for ATC and other aircraft out there. You came across the radio sounding like you own the jetways. Ironically, we were 20 minutes late as well and hearing you guys trying to manuever out front of us, even suggesting that we slow down so you could pass, was very unprofessional.

I don't know how late you were, but on a 1+30 minute flight, increasing the mach isn't going to save any appreciable amount of time. And if you really want to pass someone, descend to FL270-280. You'll get the best bang in groundspeed -- assuming the winds aren't higher down there. My two cents.

Flame away ...

But then they would be burning more of your gas! Sounds more like someone was trying to make a commute. I agree with trying to act a little more professional overall as pilots. I will say that I have flown with pilots that are like you described above...it may not be the crew as a whole but rather one pilot up front making misery. I've been on the other side of that cockpit before....

Oh crap, we wouldn't want to burn more of our gas... hahaha. Not like they care anyways. I agree with you completely CHQ Pilot. I have definitely flown with some CAs that embarrased me by the way they behaved in front of the passengers and on the radio with ATC and other aircraft.

I predict this'll be closed by the time I have my first beer tonite.

If every pilot posted a time another plane made them upset in the air..."this pilot slowed 15 miles out on final"..."this pilot missed the highspeed and we had to go around."

Move on an get over it, is this really worth posting about?

KC10 FATboy 09-04-2009 01:15 PM

You might be right, hahaha. I've already had a few so I don't mind. I tried to be constructive in my criticism instead of just name calling. So perhaps this might last.

I am over it. I'm not upset, actually sitting here laughing about it to be honest.

Just trying to submit some feedback to someone. Thanks.

Way to man up KC10. Life's too short to sweat that small stuff. Might as well just enjoy the view.

That's ironic? ;)
