half if not more of their senority list are/were low time young guys. they're going to need skippers from somewhere.

what would make them stop their long tradition of reverting to street captains? no contract, relatively low time pilots, and the new regulations that are still up in the air might affect this. I would never say never. Their management only cares about the operation and the employees can sit on it and spin.

I don't think this is new news. The original plan was for a total of 60 Q400 aircraft. They took the initial 15 or 16, have confirmed orders for another 15 or so in 2010 (main rumor of placement in IAH for Continental, among others), and options for another 30. Maybe they're exercising the options as planned.

Can anyone site a actual source such as press release or a company memo?

15 deliveries beginning in August 2010. Followed by another 15 with deliveries of all aircraft completed by April 2013. Options for 15 more. I thought that was what I read a few months ago. Could be wrong though.

"Colgan will purchase and take delivery of 15 additional Q400 aircraft to be operated under the capacity purchase agreement (the "CPA") between Continental Airlines and Colgan. The aircraft will be delivered between August 2010 and April 2011."

"PNCL also obtained 15 optional delivery slots exclusively for Continental for Q400 aircraft delivering in 2013, subject to PNCL obtaining commercially reasonable financing for the option aircraft. PNCL still retains 15 options for Q400 aircraft delivering in 2011 that it may market to other major U.S. airlines."

From the PNCL website.

There are only 15 more coming, the rest are only options and no statements have been released about exercising the options.
