SkyWest Announces 6-900's

SkyWest Airlines is pleased to take the first six CRJ900s on order for SkyWest, Inc. Two jets will begin operating in September, with all six in service by November. SkyWest will fly the 900s under the Delta Connection banner at our Salt Lake hub. What this Means for SkyWest • SkyWest received the aircraft based on Delta’s needs comparable to market. The 900 represents an expanded role for SkyWest in Salt Lake City. • The 900s maintain our values of excellent performance, passenger comfort and low operating costs, allowing us to better serve Delta. • The 900s will allow us to reach further into new markets, giving Delta the flexibility and competitive cost aircraft they need in their Salt Lake hub. Configuration • The CRJ900’s spacious cabin will have ten Business Class seats and 60 Economy seats with 37- and 33-inch pitches, respectively. • All-leather seating in two-by-two configuration • Four crewmembers in-flight (two pilots and two flight attendants).

And all for the same pay!!!! When is this going to stop? At this rate we regional guys will be stuck here forever while the legacy carriers shrink! I think SW is a GREAT company but even I know it is my own best interest to not fly bigger jets at the regional level!

I believe these are the aircraft that ASA will be operating. However, since the parent company is Skywest, the press release comes from them.

Actually...ASA will be vacating SLC. These 900's will be flown out of SLC by SkyWest.

Yeah, this is starting to get out of hand. . .or perhaps it has been out of hand, and is just snowballing out of control now.

And that's a BAD thing?????????? I know you commuter pilots get a hard on to fly bigger jets but do you really want to work at a commuter the rest of your career? Keep that attitude up and you will!

Hey guys... ignore the village idiot. He thinks he flies for UPS. The fact is he couldn't even fly a folded paper glider. Old Browntail, AKA Brown-nose operates the company turd hearse and cleans the airplanes' blue rooms. Someday he may even learn how to speak like a normal adult.

I have been preaching the 70 seat max at the regionals forever.

I have mixed feelings about these -900's at Skywest.
First, they only seat 70 people (and that should be a regional max). If they actually sat 90 people, this would be a major problem. At 70 seats, it seems like it would not take away from jobs at majors anymore than a -700 would.

Second, obviously a -900 is a larger aircraft than a -700.

It is mainline size, at regional seating capacity!

Personally, I am happy with ALL regionals at 70 seats and under. But should future scope contracts include a max gross weight clause? Take the max gross weight on a CRJ-700 and EMB-170, and require the mainline to have all flying over that max gross weight.

Hopefully US Air pilots can get a 70 seat scope clause. Tell Mesa to take those -900's and stick them up their @$$ (no disrespect to Mesa pilots).
