ATC's complaint on "Eagle Flight" callsign
Until Compass says "Compass Rose", Horizon says "Horizon Air", Frontier says "Frontier Flight", and Spirit says "Spirit Wings", and Caribbean says "Caribbean Airlines"....."Eagle Flight" will be "Eagle". Because those are the official ARTCC callsigns for those airlines and they dont say them verbatim.
We get in trouble for not saying Eagle Flight. Garbage...! |

We get in trouble for not saying Eagle Flight. Garbage...! Rode the Delta Shuttle a few weeks back.... turned out it was Shuttle America or some other RAH creation.... never once did I hear anything except "welcome aboard the Delta Shuttle"... heck, even Colgan used to include at the end "....operated by Colgan Air." By the way, after having ridden in the back of that E170, I agree, it is NOT a regional aircraft. |

Hey, for a regional, at least your call sign matches the paint on the plane... You're probably one of the only regionals flying in their own colors not outright pretending to be somebody else....

(You might be one of these days anyways :) Just kidding! |
Of all of those airlines you just mentioned "Eagle Flight" is the only one that if you leave off the second word you get a call-sign for another company... that being the Secret Service. And that's why ATC occasionally gets on you for saying Eagle when you are "Eagle Flight". That's the word from ATC.

Okay so if thats true that answers the 'dilemma'.

Follow FM1. Eagle FLT is the proper call sign.

People want to bash others without knowing the facts. |
At NWA, we are encouraged to say something like, "Thank you for flying Northwest, now part of Delta," but when you ride on Pinnacle they say, "Thank you for flying Delta." Go figure.

So, is a CRJ700 or 900 a regional aircraft? Let me understand your thought process, since you sat in the back and now can form an opinion. Engines near tail of airplane: good. Engines under wings: bad. Uncomfortable cabin: good. Comfortable cabin: bad. Air stairs: good. No air stairs: bad. Same amount of seats as a 700 but a 170: bad.
Ok..I get it now. Thanks. |

Let it go. Reference the other 400 threads about Ejet vs. 700/900. Back to the call signs...

Mom !! He's not saying his Callsign Correctly !!!! Really ?! Just be a professional and say the callsign as it is given to you. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't add possessive entitlement to your callsign, you just sound immature.

"Kitty Hawk" was actually already taken, it is the callsign of any aircraft that is carrying the Queen of England. |

We get in trouble for not saying Eagle Flight. Garbage...! I was in NYC doing the flyby for the US Open Tennis tourney last month. Needless to say, we don't fly in that airspace very often. Well, we launched out of EWR to hold east of LGA until it was time to make the run. Our callsign was Eagle 11. It took me a few minutes to realize that we were not the only guys flying in the area with the Eagle callsign! Full callsigns were important that day (at least for me). Oh, and when we flew into EWR the Friday before the finals, the weather was horrible (rain, low cloud, significant wind and shear), and I had to fly a STAR which included some high altitude holding and (for us) VERY slow flying (<200 kts) as we got within about 20 miles of the field. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the challenges of airline flying in major metro areas. I won't even get into trying to taxi to the FBO! |

Papa northbound, hold short of 29. Cross Runway 29, turn left on Zulu hold short of 22R. Cross Runway 22R, taxi to Signature....all while every transmission is stepped on by Continental at Romeo Golf. |
I used to be a controller in the military. When I hear flight after a call sign, I expect to hear the rest of the flight checkin as well. It means there is more than one aircraft. So if the FAA/FCC allowed flight as part of a commercial call sign that would be confusing.
|
Heard an Eagle guy saying "Evil Flight XXXX" the other day.... laughed by *** off... Don't think the controller caught it though...
|
That's "Evel Flight".

That's what they told us at work....
Going back to look for a reference, found in KHA GOM Chap 11, page 2: International Call Signs All flights operating outside the United States shall use the call sign "AIR KITTY HAWK" in accordance with an agreement with ICAO, .............."Kitty Hawk" is the call sign for aircraft utilized by England's Royal Family. |
Thanks. I wonder how long that has been in effect. I heard her use the Speedbird callsign in 2002.
|
Eagle will change their call sign to Chautauqua soon.
