Default T/O Pitch Set 10 Degrees for CRJ-200

Do any other CRJ-200 Operators require you guys to manually set the Takeoff pitch to 10 degrees before you take the RWY??? I know some AD came out a while ago having to do with over rotating during icing conditions....but we had a Comair guy in the jumpseat yesterday and he said they dont use the FD for takeoff....

So do any other airlines besides AWAC do this???

After the PVD deal, do you guys *have* to use the FD for takeoff?

There is no requirement to use it for T/O at AWAC unless it is IMC or if it's an RNAV departure.

I know this could be comparing apples to oranges; however, in four other airplanes I've flown, the Flight Directors were not to be used until you were stabilized at V2 (OEI) or V2+10 V2+20 (AEO).

In all cases, the primary instrument for rotation was the airspeed indicator.

Thanks...wasn't sure how that whole "use of automation" memo was implemented.

ASA used to do the 10 degree thing, however maintenance went through and changed all the the FD's to show 12.5 degrees of pitch instead of 15. That process is now complete and we just press TOGA. We are required to use the FD for RNAV departures and with half of our departures out of ATL, that is a lot of them.

ASA used to do that. The FD has now been reformatted to show 12.5 degrees instead of 15 so we just hit TOGA.

In the RJ the FD on takeoff will give 15 degrees nose up and +/- 5 degrees lateral in takeoff mode as a guide. After rotation and once stabilized we then select our speed and lateral modes.
