Colgan Saab Jumpseat
Going to try jumping on Colgan from IAD to ABE. Are there usually any weight problems or anything to watch out for? I really need to get up there and can connect another way if need be. Thanks guys!

go through phl piedmont fly's a few a day and i think wisky does 1 or 2. wont get a jump ever on piedmont but wisky always has room for a jump.

Those flights are constantly full...it's hit or miss. Good luck.

PDT flies the 300 in there sometimes from PHL, so in that case you should be able to get in the jumpseat.

I've ridden a few times IAD-ABE on colgan.. Haven't run into a problem, but also haven't tried on a really bad weather day, either...

I don't know about the loads between those cities, But if you have a means to check them, I'd say if it's booked to anything more than about 28 passengers, I'd go another way. If bags and fuel are ideal, we can get all 34 seats filled, but that rarely happens. In fact, the only times I've seen that was in desperate situations when they are actually willing to pull bags off to get people on, usually its the other way around. A more realistic max load for the mighty Saab is about 30-32. The cockpit jumpseat is useless except for line checks and the like. If all the seats in the back are full, odds are they've left bags behind already, and aren't going to pull 6-7 more to get you on the jumpseat.
But, if there's room, I assure you you'll be welcome. |
We take 34 pax on the Saab regularly, but usually with a few kids on board and not a tremendous amount of cargo. It is certainly possible to take the jumpseat. Loads between IAD-ABE average around 25-30, so chances are pretty good. Most Colgan crews will do their best not to leave a pilot behind :)
