CRJ first trip @ FL410

My first time at FL410, between Dakar, Senegal, and Lagos, Nigeria. 2:48 UTC time in the upper left corner of the MFD is in fact local time; 2:48am. My first "red eye" also. First time using the HF radio. For North American pilots, the only things "weird" should be the altimeter setting at 1013, and the "Boeing" cross bars on a CRJ.

Also, my longest flight ever; 1321nm. My previous record was 1257nm, KDSM to KLAX in a CRJ-700.

Does anybody have any idea where I can find an operation manual on the HF radio that is factory installed in the CRJ-900? (Note: I hereby certify that I'm not a terrorist seeking a top secret way how to operate an HF radio :-)

Glad to see you're back in the air Tony. HR radio operations is more art than science...there should be books or internet gouge available on HF in general.

Just look for the beacons.

I went about 5 months with no flying... at least I got paid (I'm salaried) the whole time. Been flying the past few days. 2009 will end with about 200-ish total hours flown.

The CRJ has a whole bunch of settings that can be changed on the HF radio. I'll try and remember to take a picture of it. I really want to know what the specific setup is on this radio. I recognize that there are very few CRJ's with HF, and even fewer that actually get used.

And whaddaya know, she didn't fall out of the sky...contrary to (apparent) popular belief...

Comair was doing a JFK-AUS (1320 miles) in the CRJ 900. Nobody should have to sit in the back of a CRJ for that long! And even worse, Pinnacle is doing a ATL-STX flight (1638 miles according to DAL, 1423 great circle miles as per Airnav) a couple times a week, block 3:55! Insane!

Nobody ever said a CRJ900 would fall out of the sky, the CRJ 100/200 holds that title.

CRJ-200 won't fall out of the sky at FL410 either, provided the people flying it have even an elementary grasp of high-altitude aerodynamics (ie keep speed on the wing and she'll fly just fine).

If it was a -900 he was flying I'm kind of surprised he's never 4-1-oh'd it before while at Skywest...I hear 700s from multiple operators up there fairly regularly flying around the midwest.
