I just wonder what good a FAM would be in a case like this. Defending the cockpit and keeping the aisle clear is easy, they make themselves a target. Someone siting in their seat and going poof is a different story.

It seems through history governments and armies have always gotten ready to flight with the tactics of the last war. This guy was gift wrapped by his own father and the left hand didn't talk to the right. The intel side needs a bunch of new people.

the only problem with the federal application process is the length of time to get hired. It is crazy. It's easier to become an airline pilot, which to me is bass ackwards. Again, since the U.S. Gov't needs FAM's why not allow pilots the temporary position then train as you go to get the security net in place while filling job positions and getting people to work. It could be a win win for all involved. The flying public would feel as if the government moved quickly and would feel a little better about security and the O'bama "where are thou" administration would be getting people to work. I think it is a good fit honestly. Pilots helping pilots helping the country. Wow what a concept....:D

Granted in the past...ie viet nam era pilots majority had military training.
But ZDUB it still applies, and quit worrying about the "puppy mill" syndrome that you can't get over. This isn't about you. It is about applying a common sense approach to security needs of the immediate need and threat that we all face. Thanks for your support.:D

I'm reasonably certain, you can check my post history, that I've never mentioned the puppy mills on this forum. I'm pretty well over it, and it was largely tongue in cheek. Having said that, what is past does not necessarily still apply. On the liberal side, I'd put the number of former millitary at maybe 50/50, and again I'm being generous. At the end of the day, however that's really neither here nor there in that former millitary does not automatically a good LEO/FAM make. I spent eight years in a high speed MOS in the Army and seven in Law Enforcement and I can tell you that on the LE side, I worked with many excellent Officers and Agents who had zero millitary time. As a corollary, I worked with more than one marginal former mil and watched several wash out at various stages over the course of the 18 weeks I spent at the Academy. They simply couldn't effectivley assimilate to a civillian LE role coming from the environment they had.

At the end of the day, it's an individual proposition. Just as not anyone can earn ATP, not anyone can wear a badge, no matter how motivated and capable they may be. You simply either are, or you are not. Your idea is not absurd, and it may merrit exploration. The 800 pound gorilla however may be the fact that these are Federal jobs and they can't be filled by one group of people to the exclusion of the rest of an applicant pool, no matter how well qualified and/or intended.

Out of intrest, what MOS? I can't really think of anything highspeed at the moment outside the 11 or 18 series.

Hmmm sounds alot like being an airline pilot except we sit up in the very front and we get paid alot less than a FAM.
