I wear Clarks also, bought them at Macy's. I've had them for about 1.5 years now and they are very comfortable. Easy to slip on/off and now metal shank.

I'd also recommend the Dockers that can be found at Sears. Square toe looks nice and they are slip on too.

If you are interested in boots, Ariat makes some nice boots that have composite shanks and are airport friendly. I've got the Blackwater model with the square toe that looks sharp and very comfortable. They have since been discontinued but if you look around you may be able to find them online.

+ 1 for the Deer stags. You can find them on sale for $30-$35 sometimes. I buy 2 pairs at a time. Very comfy, detector proof and weatherproof. They do only last for 9-12 months, but they are cheap and comfortable.

Clark's. I have the Un-structured style and like them a lot. Easy to slip on and no metal.

If you don't want to buy online, Nordstrom Rack has good dress shoes. If you are not sure if there is a shank or not try bending the sole in half or twisting it and you can feel where the shank ends just forward of the arch. If it flexes right in the middle, no shank. I do get some funny looks though as I'm folding every pair of shoes I pick up!

I wear shoes in the summer and boots in the winter (got tired of feet getting wet from snow going over the top of the shoe)

Shoes I wear ECCO not sure of the style name, but they are tied and basic black dress. Think I got them from JC Pennys. By far the most comfortable work shoe I've ever had. Downside is they were just shy of 200 bucks so that kind of hurt. Plus side is I bought them Summer of 2005 and they still look good. Can probably get a few more summers out of them.

Boots went with Rocky "TMC" I think it stand for Technology Made Comfortable. They were advertised as "SWAT team" boots. Got them from Dicks Sporting Goods for either 40 or 60 bucks..which was awesome. Most comfortable boot I've ever had. More comfortable than some sneakers I've had. Top of boot goes a few inches above ankle so unless snow is over 6 or so inches deep dont have to worry about wet feet. Bought them Winter of 2005 and probably still have one or two winters left in them as well.

Both my shoes and boots are tie up and simple black leather. Both make it thru the metal detectors just fine. Both have been used for about 5 years. It would be hard to find a better deal than these.

Another vote for Eccos. I've had mine for 2 years and they still feel & look great. Get them at the Nordstrom half price sale and you won't be disappointed.
