Below 100 knots, I would too. Above 100? Nope.

If you read the beginning of the article it wasn't just catastrophic failure of the 2 tires. I spoke with the capt of another RJ that was next in line for takeoff and supposedly both the flaps on that side and the hydraulic lines were affected (pierced/torn through?) as well. Apparently they tried to tow it a while ago but the mains started to collapse so they stopped. Secondhand info from the field, but I'm certain the crew did the right thing.

Wow, in that case, good save guys

SkiBum112 02-08-2010 09:55 AM

Good job guys

I wonder if Mesa has enough money in the bank to pay for the repairs??:o

sinsilvia666 02-08-2010 10:38 AM

either way good work !

Perhaps people will stop second guessing that PSA crew now after this... Looks like the Mesa crew did exactly what they had to do to make sure of a safe outcome. I will be interested in reading about this flap section that was damaged along with possible hydraulics..... And to think they did everything right and still stopped barely before the EMAS.....

Flown with the Captain before, great guy. Wouldn't expect anything less from this crew!

I'd agree. Though accelerate stop is based on max braking. Which means on 4 tires, not 2 tires and 2 rims.

So I don't think you can really draw accurate parallels to the PSA accident.

with the amount of snow that has come down in the area the last few days i cant imagine breaking action was perfect either. good job to the crew for getting it stopped in time.

Really, is it possible that the fuse plugs melted and caused the flat tires. Let the details come out before listening to the media. The 145 has great stopping power but I have melted the plugs from an abort before.

Jim, Are you still @ Freedom or were you furloughed?

hendefea 02-10-2010 06:00 AM

Just recieved an email from the company regarding the first CRW emas incident. The news article says that the crew tried to change the flap position while almost at Vr?????!!!!!!! Maybe im late on this info...but come on guys...no wonder everyone is coming down on us regional guys.

I know I am not immune to mistakes but man...you got to wonder....
