Possible summer ASA Recalls?
Hey everyone,
Before anyone bashes my post.. This is just a rumor from ASA crews going through the station I work at.. but I wanted to see if anyone else heard during recent recurrent classes, that they have been saying there is a lot of speculation/high probability about recalls for summer flying.. I have heard it a lot over the past three days!

Positive in the industry would be great... Wonder if it would be due to the UAL flying, since it seems like the DAL flying as of late has been focued around Compass..... Has there been any attrition at all at ASA lately? I know that's why AWAC had recalled some where as PDT/PSA was due to plain and simple understaffing.....

Attrition in 2009 - Present is about 40 people. CRJ 200 IAD CRJ 700/900 ATL I heard is understaffed but vacancy bids has fixed it. What that leaves CRJ 200 ATL? I don't know. I'll believe recall when I see the notice come out. Plus I'm so far on the bottom of the list, I'd be surprised if a Spring Recall would go that deep. Don't forget PBS is to be voted on and probably online by summer flying. Don't be surprised if ASA is holding out till they can reevaluate staffing levels once PBS goes online. Personally, from everyone I talked to at ASA, I think ASA staffing levels are below but I think PBS may even it out. But if we get the DL flying like we got last year, heck even PBS can even out our staffing levels and I think recall would be inevitable. I think IAD is already maxed out on possible block hrs with 13 CRJ's (#14 is a SPARE) so increase summer blocks may not be possible unless UAL takes more of our 200s. (WE GOT 6!) TOO SOON to tell I guess. Comair recalled a few and RJET is recalling too (if not already), eagle recalled... but then there is Mesaba who's pilots I was told got DATES of possible furlough (they gave them like 3 possible months of getting furloughed!) THEN we have Colgan that is hiring and GoJet that took a buncha UAL guys late last year...... so who knows.... Too hard to tell... I'd say plan not to get recalled soon but hope that we do.
ohh... and yes I have heard the same rumor lately going on from pilots in recurrent.

We were told 75 additional furloughs in 2010....that is the latest at Mesaba

There is a 3 month window from the time the PBS vote passes until PBS goes live. During that 3 month window, we would be bidding lines on Flica, and bidding side by side with PBS as a training tool. The PBS awards won't affect your schedule during those 3 months, but you will be able to tweak your preferences and learn the system before it goes live. The vote is supposed to close in March, which would leave April through June as the 3 month transitional window, and PBS would go live in July.

At a PBS road show the other day, an ALPA rep said we are still overstaffed by 200 pilots. He said that if the average line values were increased to 85 hrs, we would need to furlough even more.
BTW, as much as I want the PBS LOA to pass, I really don't think it is going to happen.
