Does Colgan ....

... require you to relinquish your recall rights if you're currently on furlough from another carrier?

No flames, please. Just a simple answer will suffice. :D

flyguyniner11 02-15-2010 05:24 PM

I have heard that people do not have to give up their number at the carrier that they are furloughed from.

glyde 02-15-2010 05:32 PM

Two guys I know of, hired at Colgan last summer, were recalled and left. So they didn't give up their numbers ...

I was in Memphis about 2 weeks ago and there was another guy with me that actually asked Mr. Colgan about that and he said yes they have to give up their senority number. But I also heard about the guys that got hired last summer and quit to get recalled so.... Who knows try and see if they say you have to and you don't want to, just leave. If not stay

IrishTiger 02-15-2010 08:49 PM

Just tell them you did if they ask. How will they know you ever did it?

And if you get recalled how would they know your reason for quitting, unless people just run their mouths off.

flyinturbo 02-15-2010 09:07 PM

Well, one word: Integrity. The people we work for may/may not have integrity, but I don't let them dictate how I conduct my life. If they ask me to relinquish my seniority number, I'll respectfully decline.

What part of the Frontline program did you find appealing about Colgan?

Very classy. At least they took advantage out of Colgan, that's good.

It was mostly true. They only reason you aren't harssed at work by people who saw it was because it was on PBS. Don't give up your #for colgan.

Many places, like SkyWest, have you sign a letter addressed to your furloughed carrier stating that you relinquish you seniority number.

I was dumbfounded by the PBS special.

That isn't the Colgan I worked at. Yeah they were mom and pop, but changing showtimes? Never heard of it.

moflyer 02-16-2010 07:18 PM

I'm pretty sure that SkyWest does not make you resign your number from the airline you are furloughed from. I have flown with quite a few people that are furloughed from American.

Lowlevel 02-16-2010 07:55 PM

I interviewed with Colgan back in 2006, a day before I was hired at my current airline. Chuck was very adamant that Colgan was not going to be sold, and will stay a small family run business. A few months later....well, he weren't too honest now, were he?

I interviewed there.

I was given a spot in the pool.

I was given a letter as I spoke of which had me resign my seniority and position. It even read something like "I hereby resign my...."

It's entirely possible that American does not honor letters of resignation from pilots on furlough... there's nothing saying they have to. Just depends on the company, I know several guys that sent letters that retained their seniority and others who's company honored the resignations....

I must have imagined the letter, maybe the entire trip to Utah was a dream

Maybe I can not read and just thought the words on the paper said that.
