Default Resign or get canned

If you are given a choice to be dismissed or resign, and choose to resign, can that company tell an employer that they took disciplinary action on you, or can they only tell that emplyer that you resigned? Thanks!

Unfortunately it is almost as bad as being fired, and will probably come out on a background check. You may be able to overcome the situation if you spin it into a learning experience, but don't lie about it, that will doom you.

You might be able to come to a 'gentlemen's agreement" with your former employer: you don't sue them or make trouble for them, they give you a decent recomendation.

Note: Have your girlfriend pretend to be a reference checker for some generic aviation company and call your previous employers to do a "background check". See what you come up with...if there are any problems, maybe you can go back and smooth it over.

I think it all depends on what it is over. If you were night putting with the dean's daughter that's one thing and you can probably smooth that over (eventually) but if it is about busting checkrides or something you would file a NASA report over then your options may be more limited. Spinning it into a learning experience would probably go a long way to helping your cause. Good luck and hope it all works out.

Rather than resignation or getting canned, why don't you see if there is some way to reach terms with the company and come back into favor? Say a voluntary week suspension without pay or something?

Wow, what company do you work for? That seems like more of a "slap on the wrist, don't do it again" type thing. We all do boneheaded things like that once in a while. Why would a company sack you for something so minor after they have spent the money on training you? The only time I have heard of a company coming down this hard on someone for a similar occurance was when the individual involved attempted to mislead the company and cover his tracks. I think he got fired more for being dishonest than for missing a reserve day.

I worked for AWAC, and i was still on probation - maybe that is why, but the thing im worried about is an interviewer not believeing me since it seems outrageous to be forced to resign bc of something like that. Any tips for what to say? I think im just going to chalk it up as a huge learning experience

So BF wants to *fire* you for missing a reserve assignment?

The company can throw away money on training newhires but they need b-scales for growth...friggin brilliant.

PM me the details if you would...
