I noticed 25% voted against...the puppy mills and air universities must have turned out their student bodies en masse.

If you're on facebook, go check out some of these "Against HR3371" groups. They're filled with current ERAU/UND/Purdue/etc. students who can't see the forest for the trees. They just want to be able to go fly jets as soon as possible; making a living doing it hasn't yet crossed their minds.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but can you really blame them. They were around to see some of their peers get into the industry at very low time, and this is going to prevent them from doing the same. I know if I was still back in school, I would be voting against it as well. Maybe more emphasis should be placed on the interview process, and the sim ride to weed out those who shouldn't be in the cockpit. If you can make it through a tough interview, and make it through ground school/IOE, why shouldn't they be allowed in. To flat out say 1500 hours is going to make you a better pilot, well, I can see why the up and coming generation of pilots would be frustrated with that.

Just wanted to play devil's advocate, so before I get blasted, I do agree things need to change and standards need to be increased. I also think quality of flight time should be looked at, and more regulation on the training departments of airlines, since they need to share the blame if somebody makes it to the line who shouldn't be there.

For those interested in seeing the group....it is called "Pilots Against the the First Officer ATP Requirement".....and yes, there are 2 "the"...sad I know

Not this week like the title of this thread says. Right now it has been referred to committee. It still needs to get reported by committee before it can be voted on in the Senate and then the House.
