Now you could go to your E6-b and figure the density of the fuel for the tank temperature and figure the weight of a gallon. Then you could divide the 12000 pounds by your weight calculation and come up with an answer. I would rather just figure about 6 pounds per gal times 100 gals per hour divided in to 12000 = about 20 mins. Who would you rather hire?
BTW a really experienced 727 Capt. would just say, "I'd get the flight engr. to figure that out!" convert pounds to gallons: 12000 pounds; drop last digit (divide by 10) = 1200 add half (1200+600) = 1800 gallons (roughly) (12000 / 6.7 = 1791.04 gallons) |

This is a question my dad had back in the day... If you had to kill one of your parents, which one would it be?

You are going 250Kts. How long does it take to go 50 miles? Quick now. Don't get it wrong. Appx 10 minutes. 250 an hour, 125 in 30 minutes, 62 in 15 minutes, 31 in 7.5 minutes... -LAFF Wouldn't it be easier to assume that since we're talking about knots (NM/hr) that we'd also be talking about Nautical Miles? 12 minutes . |

would it make a difference since the conversion would end up the same, 250nm vs 250sm, if you're doing 250nm/hr and 250sm/hr?

SM/HR really isn't an option at that point. The only variable left for interpretation is the distance traveled in miles - - statute or nautical? I'm used to working with nautical miles, so that would be my first answer. . |
Hah! Beat you to it Tony.
