Growth. 144 vacancies...

More hiring?

Sliceback 06-05-2010 05:38 AM

Growth? Or just guys transferring to AA?

andy171773 06-05-2010 05:42 AM

Eagle expects to hire 20 a month well into next year..is what i've heard from several people in recruitment/hiring department.

Sliceback 06-05-2010 06:01 AM

Makes sense. Forgot to account for the 22 CRJ's coming on board. Add that manning demand, and the guys going to AA, and there's a need for 400 +/- (?).

RJ Pilot 06-05-2010 06:05 AM

Yeah, but forgot to add the part of NO Backfills positions. I see an increase total of 3 pilots.

When I interviewed they said they will probably have to hire 400-500 pilots because of the new CRJs, the flows, and the expected rest rule changes.

That's what they told me, I have no idea if that is actually true or not.

lsl80 06-05-2010 06:34 AM

Correct me if I am wrong, but there are only 35ish Eagle pilots going to AA this month (June). When the AA Feb 28th furloughs are offered recall, then the remainder of Eagle pilots begin to flow again.

Sliceback 06-05-2010 07:48 AM

Nah, no correction needed. You're probably right. Just more incomplete thinking on my part.

I need to check my transmission out because the 'B' doesn't seem to be engaging my mind. :(

Not to poop on anyone's parade...and trust me I hope Eagle grows like crazy...I just don't think 500 is an accurate number.

What I think needs to be looked over carefully is those positions that will not be back filled. MY understanding from reading this over is that they are trying to move most of the EMB crews out of NYC. ORD would be the most likely place for them to go.

If they go and hire 500 people we will be an airline of what? Almost 3500 pilots? Probably not the best move in such a fragile economy. IF they did hire 400-500 folks we'll see a repeat of 2008. Extreme over staffing, reserves flying 5 hours a month and an eventual "extended vacation without pay" for those 400.

The 37 seaters are obsolete. The 50 seaters do still have some use. I really believe we will see the 37 seaters retiring in the next two years. SJU flying is being reduced from what I hear as well. AA is not as big a player in the Caribbean like it used to be.

I will 100% agree that we are at a critical staffing point. SJU runs out of reserves daily. LGA is going down to 1 or 2 available. ORD is running their reserves like crazy.

We need to remember that we go into negotiations in 2 years. If Eagle wants to keep flying for AMR they are going to need to look like they'll be worth it.

I believe that Eagle is AMRs best bet for regional feed. If I'm not mistaken Eagle did post a slight profit in the 1Q. We're getting a new CEO for what it's worth. We know what AA likes and we do our job well. Not only is our pilot group experienced it's experienced in flying for AMR.

didn't a bunch of new hires go to SJU so their reserve list should be plentiful. It may be a rumor but I hear a couple ATR's were moved down to SJU because SJU is growing and MIA is shrinking. Also isn't Trans states flying the 35 seat stuff hence why perhaps it may be obsolete?

new hires are going to SJU but they are all in training as we speak and i believe they have the opportunity to bid for the OFE vacancies. i talked to a SJU FO last week...he was on the bus going to the hotel in dallas. he was flown up to cover some dfw atr flying. he told me that the reserves are run out almost every day.

from what i've also heard we are cutting 10 flights a day out of SJU in the future.

trans states used to use 10 of our EMB 145s and did American Connection flying out of STL/ORD. we got those back from them last year. they still do some flying for us out of ORD. all of our 135s are flying mainly up in the northeast. at one point i think we have about 29. they are constantly weight restricted and leaving with empty seats.

ERJF15 06-05-2010 10:34 PM

Trans States isn't a player for AMR anymore.

So, is SJU the most junior base? What is the next most junior? Also, can any current Eagle guys confirm what the most junior lineholder's DOH is (systemwide)?

Thanks!

You can't deny the truth..:p

DON*T HATE ERAU 06-10-2010 02:36 PM

Just thought I would throw this in but once you are in training and your equipment is the turboprop then you are equipment locked for a year. Therefore, those guys in training right now that are ATR won't be able to bid for any jet vacancies.

Romulus 06-11-2010 05:13 PM

How does the sale of Eagle factor into their growth?

That's not exactly accurate. If, say, 6 months from now they find out that San Juan FO ATR is overstaffed, then a pilot who is "seat locked" can proffer to displace out of that status. That's how I got to the ATR and back to the Jet 7 months later. Both proffers to displace.

Looks like that may be the truth with SJU Closing........
