ASA Recalls 30 more...
Discuss amongst yourselves...
|
....2 months too late
|
I think this ought to take it to 2/25/08 DOH.
|
Congrats to those at ASA.... And good luck with your pending training!

The way things are shaping up, I have a feeling everyone that wants to be back will be so soon....
|
|
Yeah, it's great and all, but how great will life be if I take the recall? I hear horror stories from my buds who are still out there on the line every day. I'd be going back to ready reserve, ready reserve, ready reserve, probably sent to IAD (yuck, sorry) and getting shafted by crew scheduling 20 days a month.
No thanks. I'll wait til the next round when/if it looks like QOL won't be so horrid. Not worth it unless I was still unemployed from the furlough. |
Dude, you're a regional pilot. It's never gonna be THAT good... But if you have any reason not to accept a recall by no means don't do it. Let those behind you desperate to return get in first.
|
Very nice to see this after the worst weekend we've had operational wise in a loooong time....Things hopefully are looking more and more up
|
Looks like they're sending out 76 letters to cover 33 slots. I expect the 16 of us from the September furlough will bypass again and I'm guessing they expect a higher rate of bypass among the February furloughs. Good luck guys!
|
Why do you keep bypassing if you only want to be back here ? Or is it you only wish to be back when times are good ? I'm lost here...i've heard nothing but the desire from furloughees to be back on property and you ' just want to work again ' and then you bypass again and again ? How long do you think this will work before 1000's of others are interviewed and hired over you who will take the job tomorrow >? ( Just my .02, i'm very confused )

You're right, longevity doesn't make a difference because of how the pay scale flattens out. It's all about QOL, and there won't be any for most of us if we were to take the recall.
That is likely why they didn't get all 42 pilots that they wanted last time, and that's likely why they sent out more than twice the number of letters as recalls this time. Anybody who has a somewhat decent paying job is going to stick with it until life at the airline isn't so hellish. I don't mean to sound bitter, but look at how they've been running it into the ground the past few months... |
Yeah something tells me that reserves are going to be ridiculously busy from now on. I have yet to see them do this but there were 175 lines on the 700/900 and the last person to be awarded a line was 173 on the list. At least 6 people senior to the most junior line holder bid reserve. What happened to those other 8 lines? Not sure how that works.
|
Anyone that accepts recall now will be cannon fodder for scheduling. But hey, it beats no job, I guess. I expect there will be a lot of bypasses.
|
If I get a notice, which it looks like I will, I'll gladly accept a recall.
Although, good for me - and significantly different than many of my furloughed brothers and sisters - is that I have a full time Air Force Reserve position that allows me to claim MIL Leave, so I can come back from recall and go straight to MIL leave and come back when I want to, so long as I keep filing MIL leave on each new set of orders. About three months into this set, with the expectation to do another set of 6 month orders. So at least I'll - if I'm lucky and 10+ pilots bypass ahead of me - begin to build longevity again and come back in the spring, slide into a training class either by myself or another few people coming off of various leaves, and roll from there. . . perhaps with enough seniority to escape having to commute to IAD on reserve. |
I don't think whether you bypass to wait, or accept the recall are going to be on reserve regardless, a few might get a line in IAD with the mass exodus from there in this last bid award, but on a whole you're going to reserve regardless, I think that's just something you have to accept. I just missed the furlough, got displaced to IAD, and was commuting to IAD for reserve. Life pretty much sucked, and getting back to ATL just to sit reserve although doesn't seem like a big victory, is a massive victory for me. Just don't understand where you are getting these high expectations for yourself by bypassing, but good luck with that.

If it's me, I guess you missed the part where I'm going to be on military leave as soon as I accept my recall. . .thus not having to put up with the mess of IAD. I'm fine with reserve, I'm even fine with reserve in IAD. . .what I'm not fine with is the current Charlie Foxtrot going on up there, which will continue even after PBS until this company HIRES people to appropriately staff the current flying (and forecasted increases into next year). If you were responding to me, you may want to read what I wrote one more time and notice when I'm going to voluntarily come off of military orders so that you have an idea of where I'm getting my "high expectations," but part of me thinks you were talking to someone else because I never indicated I was bypassing. Try the quote feature, it helps. |
The only issue with IAD is the reserve staffing...if you are a line holder and the weather is fine IAD is very simple and actually not a bad operation that turns out good borderline great numbers and certainly numbers in line with ATL on it's best days. Again, this is all contingent upon the place being staffed accordingly and these next callbacks/upgrades/whatever combined with the lessons learned these past few months SHOULD put us in a great spot. Congrats and welcome back to all those who are choosing to return !

If their life is so good to not come back, why come back at all? Then again I didn't get furloughed so I don't really know everyone's situation. I'm just saying life has sucked period for everyone at the bottom here at Atlantic Southeast, furloughed or not.
|
I love hearing these furloughed guys talk about what a mess IAD is when they haven't even been a part of the operation. It runs a heck of a lot smoother than any day in ATL.
|
Cool cheif pilot, no lines for takeoff, overnights in Manhattan and downtown Chicago, numerous open gates with marshallers and wing-walkers waiting and places to eat like Chipotle and Potbelly. Yeah Dulles is a mess.
|
I love trips that slide thru the united system. Better overnights, better food, better ramp, better sight seeing in the NE and longer legs usually.
What is not to like? |
(Shhhhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone. It's supposed to be a secret!!!!!)
IAD is awful. You don't want to be there. Especially if you're senior to me. |

I am actually happy to see more people being recalled at ASA. This industry blows though, as you guys recall more (some of which is from QX CRJ700) Horizon has just announced they will be furloughing 40 pilots (result of the CRJ700s).
I don't resent ASA even in the slightest for this. Horizon has been trying to get rid of the airplanes for some time and apparently had these kind of plans attached to them. So this is all on Horizon managers and not on any other management team or pilot group. But there is a good chance I will be on the street by the end of the year from this. Seems like the jobs are just shifting around right now. |

I agree with you. I was very upset to see all the cancellations due to the lack of crews. HOWEVER, I am surprised no one has commented on BH's update the other day. Apparently we didnt get the -700s back in time from the first class config process. So thats not really our fault. Also, delta found flying for those six -200s in limbo for us....plus 2 more -200s for the united side. Thats some pretty big news i must say. Anyone know where those two united frames are coming from? I really hope management can figure out this staffing thing soon...i would hate to shoot ourselves in the foot and miss some "opportunistic" flying... |
For Sure there CT, agreed 100%

It's not the operation, that is a mess. . .rather the recent nightmare in regards to scheduling and having to canx many many flights because of it. Ive heard nothing but WONDERFUL things coming from those who fly on the United side of the house, so much so that it'd be worth it to me to commute up there to escape the silliness of Delta operations. It's a tough balancing act. Nevertheless, don't think a lot of us furloughed guys are talking about the operational mess - rather the most recent ridiculous behavior from our company in regards to failed planning of resources (crew staffing). |
