Seaborne Questions
 

Anybody have any info on Seaborne in the USVI? I have a lot of DHC6 time but no float rating. Any info on pay scale and upgrade time? Info on living in the Islands??

read an article in AOPA, upgrade in a year, first year pay is 26 grand and change, called about a job, want 1500TT and 500 Multi Turbine and a comm multi float rating, after 5 years a capt makes approx 85,000

I jumpseated on them after reading the artical in AOPA from San Juan to ST. Thomas, talked with the cheif pilot Wayne...something (nice guy) It sounds like they do a lot of legs a day but once you upgrade you make some decent money...

Go to their website and get the phone number. Call them during business hours and it's easy to get in touch with the HR lady. She will give you current pay scales and upgrade time. She was friendly and answered all of my questions completely. I asked her how long guys usually work for seaborne. Is it a good job where pilots end up spending several years. She answered very directly that after upgrade none of their captains have been there for more than 1 year. To me, that's a pretty good indication of what kind of job it is. Several sources tell me that pilots work hard and although captain pay is ok, expenses on the island are high. Also, no matter how much you think you'll enjoy island life, living in St. Croix gets old sooner than you'd think.

Call some of the float plane instructors in FL and see what they have to say about the company. It's a pretty small community and they're familiar with Seaborne. They've likely trained several pilots who have recently gone to work there.
