Colgan Rumors

Now that the Q's are not coming to IAH anytime soon, there's a bunch of rumors going around about why and Colgan's future. Have you guys heard anything? I've heard Colgan is getting replaced all together out of IAH by someone else, I don't know who yet.

When I interviewed with CommutAir a few months ago, they were claiming that they were told by Continental to prepare for getting a bunch of dash 8-300 aircraft and they were hoping to open a base in IAH. Not sure of any truth to that but they did interview a lot and said they were trying to get a pool of about 100-150 pilots from what I was told during my interview.

Rumors are just that. I am willing to bet that the Qs going to EWR is more to do with the CAL/United merger than anything else. CAL still wants the Qs and if they want them somewhere else they will be placed there.

It's not like any other carrier (especially one that can underbid Colgan) can provide any better service. This type of flying is heck on both crews and the aircraft.

CAL wants 700's and 900's. That's the only reason CAL wants to merge. Colgan's MX is bad and stranding a lot of people. If Skywest or anyone else says they can do the same job for less and or with better MX than CAL will dump Colgan overnight and the pilots will be the last to know.

You are on the pipe if you think SkyWest can do it for cheaper. Colgan uses cheap aircraft and cheap crews. The are the cheapest of them all

Cheap on paper maybe but the costs of these cancellations both in lost revenue and lost customers is probably starting to add up. At some point it may be worth going with an airline with at least a somewhat decent reputation even if it costs them more up front.

Ah but who am I kidding, this is the airlines!

Don't give Smisek and CAL's other crack managers too much credit. They have no clue how to calculate the value of anything. The only thing that they know is cost.

Cost = labor, fuel, aircraft, and god forbid that they would ever invest in any ground air conditioning at any of their hubs in the summertime.

Value = quality of service, quality of maintenance, keeping customers happy.

If CAL thought that were the case, then they never would have invited Colgan and CHQ to the party in the first place. Riddler is 100% correct, CAL management has no clue what value means and have continually shown more interest in keeping costs low than providing any sort of quality product.
