Questions for SkyWest pilots
I am thinking about making a lateral move and was wondering if people could answer some questions for me. I am attending one of the group interviews. Is this more of an HR type interview, or are there tech questions
Are all new hires going to Salt Lake right now, or is chicago getting pilots too? What is the movement like in chicago, do people always try and bid out of there, and what are the lines like in Chicago, is it pretty much junior guys work weekends, senior guys work weekdays? DO you guys think you will fly for NWA in the future? I know that there are 6 900's being delivered in sept, but what are the aircraft orders looking like after that? This 70 pilots a month hiring plan, is it forcasted to continue into next year? Thanks a lot |
No disrespect intended but if it's a lateral move why make it? Why would any one move if it is not some type of upgrade for them?

Yes...HR type interview...if there is low turn out expect the 50question ATP test and mech. apt test too. Good oportunity to meet Camille and get a foot in the door.
No...SLC is somewhat Jr. ORD is the jr base. Most people get their domicile of choice out of class, except maybe SBA, DEN, SAC. Lots of movement in ORD. Lines are okay in ORD. Lots of standups and 4 day trips. Hiring is supposed to go on for a while...(9 mo..maybe 12 mo..) Current upgrades in EMB about 14 mo and in RJ about 28 months. Good luck. |

You bring up a good point, but my reasons are this: They own their own airplanes and they don't have all their eggs in one basket like pinnacle does. I have seen what has been going on in the red tail family and it makes me sick. There is no way we will be able to improve QOL here at pinnacle when we just fly for northwest. Look at what mesaba is doing, they are imposing poverty rates on their pilots, just to try to get some of our crj's? how low is that. |

Compared to mesa, Pinnacle, TSA, and a few others I would consider skywest a diagonal move...some lateral, some vertical aspects. |
If you have the tt/connections have you considered Netjets, or some of the other fractionals? I'm nearing the top 25% of the seniority list at SkyWest and Netjets even looks appealing to me.

A Redeye is usually a one or two leg trip flown by a major airline, usually transcontinental from west to east. This are not great, but since you only have to turn the plane once or twice it's not as bad. The trains in chicago are great, you don't need a car at all, and I'm 98% sure they run all hours. |
ahhhh i always thought standup overnights were just referring to mesa's way of screwing a pilot,
getting off duty really late one night putting you on reduced rest and getting you back on duty early AM shows, so by the time you factor in shuttles and food you have no time to sleep i didnt know standup was an actual term like redeye was |
