I'm pretty sure this article says nothing about Republic buying Eagle.

yes very misleading thread title

Could: A modal verb showing capability. I often associate it with conditional phrases.

Find a story that has the word did. Which is a stand alone or auxiliary verb showing definitive results.

"Whatever Republic might do, it would have to be a very good deal for Republic," Boyd added.

Man, that Boyd really went out on a limb with that one.

anyone that gets in the sack with amr usually ends up in bk. they do not pay their bills and nickel and dime the performance issues until they make it virtually impossible to stay afloat.

I'm an outisder not flying for any regional, but I think Republic should not be allowed to buy Eagle. I don't say that because I have a problem with Republic. I say that because I don't think it serves the regional industry well to have a monster the size Republic would be if they ever did buy Eagle. I think more regional carriers provides more competition.

I like the model AA currently has with Eagle. I know AA may not like the model so well any more, but I think it's benficial to have one regional essentially associated with one major. Most importantly, I think it allows for better intergration between the two companies. I realize that can lead to the major taking advantage of the regional, but I think those things GENERALLY work themselves out.

I don't know if the same can be said for a company like Republic that is spread so wide and, right now, so thin with staffing. If I'm not mistaken, they fly routes for Delta, US Airways, American, Continental, and United. They also own Frontier, are shutting down Lynx, and are integrating Midwest. That's a lot of different irons in the fire.

This is just my view and I know other will disagree, but I think Republic, if it were to potentially buy Eagle or Comair, would probably get to a size that was just too unweildy for it's own good. That assumes though Republic isn't setting the stage for becoming a quasi major in terms of fleet size and routes.

I highly doubt RAH even wants Eagle. Hundreds of 37 & 50 seaters that are becoming uneconomical is not a good investment.

BB bought F9 & YX to get out of the regional business. Buying AE doesn't make sense.
